SALT LAKE CITY -- Passengers were removed from a Southwest Airlines flight Sunday morning after a cargo plane clipped its wing as both were taxiing in the terminal area at Salt Lake City International Airport.

A witness took cell phone photos of the Southwest plane shortly after the incident.

The Southwest flight was fully loaded when a passenger reported seeing the FedEx plane clip the wing of the Southwest jet, slicing off its wing tip.

The passengers on the Southwest plane were removed from the aircraft as precaution, since jet fuel is stored in the wing.

The FAA is investigating the incident. No one was hurt in the collision and an airport spokeswoman said neither aircraft suffered any serious damage.

The two bold bits don't seem to match. I wonder where the truth lies?

I saw the pics. The SWA winglet was removed and the fedex md10 had damage underneath his wing. According to the story I was told, the fedex gents didn't even know they made contact with the 737.

I think that SWA missed the gate because they were taxiing too fast. Then they deployed the reversers and were actually backing up the 737 to save time instead of going around the horn again, when they ran their winglet thru the wing of the MD-10.

However, the controllers covered for SWA and blamed FEDEX because of all the times that Southwest bought the controllers pizza and leather jackets.

now thats funny.......

It just sucks that this happened. Whoever was sitting at the controls I am sure feels like crap enough, before we all make a parody of the culture of our airlines. I think there an appropriate forum for laughter in our industry, however at times we open ourselves up to the haters of individual airlines when we drag ourselves through the peanut gallery.

I didn't get the Nascar reference till I reread your post. I had an air incident recently and culture around it was a lot of arrogance and dismissiveness. These events can be upsetting to those involved. That is where I am coming from.

It sucks and it is unfortunate but these kind of incidents are completely avoidable. The FAA should hammer these guys.

After two years of ignoring you, imagine my surprise that you have not improved at flamebaiting...

There is always more to the story. How deep was the push? It's mighty tight pushing from the outside gates while trying to keep your wingtip from encroaching on the taxiway. Were the FedEx guys on the centerline?

Who knows for sure?

I can attest to the s__t happens to everyone. It's up to you whether you want to learn from it or cast blame.

Gup
