Pay and upgrade time to Chellenger are largely based on your prior flight experience.
Some folks get hired to fly the Challenger right away while some will find themselves waiting a while. This also depends on the needs of the company.....Only the pilots based in MEM will fly the Challenger or the Global Express. The pilots based at the other three crew bases (DAL, HRO, & PIT) can expect to fly the Learjet 45.
The job is a salaried position and there are two levels of entry pay. One may be hired as either a 'light jet capatain' or a 'heavy jet captain'. A light jet captain can expect to be paid an annual salary ranging from 48,000 to 55,000. A heavy jet captin could expect to receive between 67,000 and 75,000 annually. If you are hired as a light jet captain, you can expect to be upgraded (assuming no problems with the individual) after accumulating 500 hours in the company airplanes from either seat (L/R) position.
These numbers may vary since it has been a year since I flew with the corporate side of the business at FedEx.
In a nutshell........this is one of the best jobs in the industry....hard to beat it.

Re Fdx corporate flight dept. openings:

Not sure if there are any openings at this writing, but have been told to see openings this spring/summer time frame as there are a few guys that will be eligible to move over to the cargo side of the business.

The interview:

This is a two day process....

Day one is a simulator evaluation where the candidate is asked to perform basic attitude instrument flying maneuvers in one of the companies simulators in MEM. Most likely a A310, DC-10, or B727 simulator. This depends on simulator availability.

Day two begins at approximatley 0800 hrs and last most of the day. This includes the following:
-Written test.....much like the AFOQT or SAT
-CRM role play excercise
-Panel interview

This is not one of the easiest interview processes, but does a good job of screening applicants.

" light jet captain can expect to be paid an annual salary ranging from 48,000 to 55,000. "

I am not bashing, just wanted to know if this was a mistake. Is 48-50,000 Capt. or F.O. ? If it's Capt. this figure is very much on the low side.

Light jet captain and heavy jet captain are just titles for pay at fedex corporate. This does not mean you are acting as pic of a particular aircraft - you may be sic but have the title of captain. Light jet capt is one pay grade(26) ranging from approx 4400/month to 6500/month. Heavy jet capt pay grade(29) ranges from 5770/month to approx 9500/month. Don't get caught up in the title!!!
