I hates peer pressure, but...

Draft Choice
Purple Haze
Your draft choice preference has been updated

You prefer to not be called

Already in VIPs as "prefer not to be called". However, as a commuter, they rarely called me anyway, and I never took a trip.

However...all those changes in VIPs are good. Maybe it will make a difference.

The Flip side...

On the other side of the coin....

When you select "Prefer not to be called" you save the scheduler time getting to the guy that will take the trip. Every minute that he has to spend on the phone increases the chances that an event will occur that will get the attention of "higher-ups." I don't have any problem listening to a brief description of the trip being offered, perhaps even asking a question or two about details not already volunteered (who's the Captain?, is that an MD-11 or an MD-10? What's the TAFB again? Hmmm .... so that get's back - - lemme look at my calendar here hmmmm... nawwww... I wish I could help you out (I really do, I have no ill feelings towards schedulers) but I'm afraid I can't take that. I'm sorry.

Now I have the trip number recorded so I can check VIPS later to see who took it, or if they abandoned the idea and sent a DC-10 instead. I guess you could say it's putting more workload on the scheduler, and it's right. They do their jobs, we do ours. The contract says seniority counts when assigning Draft Trips, I squeeze evry drop out the contract I posibly can.

Saying "don't call me" saves you time, saves the scheduler time, but it also improves the odds of finding a crew before the flight goes late or has to be cancelled. Cheever doesn't care if the scheduler has to work hard to find a crew - - he cares a LOT if the flight doesn't go.

my 2 cents...

VIPS "Do Not Call" list

Now if I could only find the option:

- "I prefer to not be called between the hours of 10 pm and 8 am. . . . ."

I'd select that one. . . .

Tny C,

Your Kung fu vewy powerful. Grasshopper will continue to try to learn. Awright...."prefer to be called....as I love to chat about all things aviation...but I'm still not flying..."

To all 27 FO's and SO's...
I'm so proud of you guys for not taking draft!!! I know that your SO pay scale hardly pays the bills and that the 150% can make a difference... I think you all have started the snowball rolling down the hill and others will follow your lead... GOOD JOB!!

I have not been offered any draft trips for the right seat of the MD in ANC, so our manning must be OK.... However, being a commuter, I don't think I get the calls the local guys might recieve... If I were offered a draft trip, it would have to at least be a double deadhead to make it worth my time without unduely affecting those junior to me... By commuting to ANC, I loose a couple of days a month anyway to make my trips legal, and I value my time at home... We all know that when we accept these trips, we may get the short term gratification of the extra pay, but if we look long term, we're only hurting ourselves and the future FedEx pilot's earnings...

Again, to you guys saying "NO, I'VE HAD ENOUGH", Good job...
Take Care,
Murdawg5

Niiiice

Just "updated" my draft choice "prefer to call" so I can waste THEIR time for a change!

This will be fun "sparing" with the schedulers.;) ;)

PLEASE, please, please do NOT spar with the schedulers - - they are our FRIENDS! They are NOT the enemy. Do NOT misconstrue my post as advocating an adversarial relationship with the schedulers, AT ALL. This is simply a tool to keep all of your options open and remain informed.

I REPEAT - - the SCHEDULER is NOT your enemy.

PROFESSIONAL. POLITE. RESPECTFUL.

They deserve nothing less.

whew...
