Probably just one of those old-timers who likes to show his FO (or Cpt) that he's been around for a while. We've all flown with those guys!! I think it's pretty cheesy myself.

fedex had to change their callsign because many operators began using "express" instead of their "desiginated callsigns" - it got very confusing as opposed to nomal confusing
