How does UPS and Fed Ex notify their future candidates for interviews? Do they email or make phone calls to the applicants? Thanks in advance. I'm just trying to get some answers so I can be prepared in the future.

UPS will usually call with an interview offer followed up by an email with all the instructions and directions on how to get there, etc.

Also, you're right about trying to be "ready." There were more than 20 pilots in my class and the time frame from the call to the interview for my group was from 4 days to 11 days; in other words you don't get lots of time to prepare once they offer you an interview.

You want to do well, because you're being scored during the entire interview process and based on your score your job offer might happen sooner or later (or even much later). In my class it ranged from starting a class a week after the interview to ~2 years after the interview! So be ready!

FedEx will call but if they are unable to reach you for some reason, they will email you.

Thanks for the info guys! I really appreciate it. I've been firing out resumes and I just want to be ready if my lucky day comes!

What are the percentages of successful interviews?

SAE aviator – “firing out” resumes won't help you with FedEx and UPS, gotta do it online. I'm sure you know that but just in case, here are the links:

Good Luck!

Word straight from the FEDEX hiring staff when I interviewed in Jan 06, was their yield is about 70% overall.

...about 15% fail the sim check on Day #1 and thus don't get to interview on day 2...then about another 15% don't get hired.

Not sure if this has changed at all since the Line Oriented Evaluation portion of Day #2 was eliminated last summer. Rumor had it, folks were having trouble there and FEDEX really didn't have a consistent/fair way to grade it. Not sure if that has been reintroduced or not in the current interviews.

Re: Day #1 sim failures....there seems to be a high correlation between those who didn't buy/practice in a DC-10 sim prior to their eval and those who failed it.

Moral: regardless of your current instrument skills, INVEST in the sim prep!!

Aloha

...true...and you'll need an inside sponsor at FEDEX who will walk you in to a Chief Pilot / Asst Chief Pilot for an informal meet-n-greet....until then, they don't even read the on-line apps (...even though it cost you $50 to apply...ouch!)

Currently, it's a very long-drawn out process at FEDEX. In my interview class time from meet-n-greet to interview ranged from 4-12 months...ouch again!

Thanks again for the info guys. I have already applied online for Fed Ex and UPS and update them often.

I have one more question for the Fed Ex guys:

Does a management rec help over there? Again, thanks for all the info I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend.

"Management rec"...???....please define.

If it's a pilot you've flown with now in Mgt, you're darn tootin....non-pilot type, then maybe it's a good character reference, but I don't believe it would be someone who could actually fill out an on-line rec for you.

Their preference is for good-people and good-pilots....the strongest recs come from guys who know you AND have flown with you.

Good luck,
