Any advice for someone....yes me, that does not have any one to sponsor them but have the quals? Am I out of luck or what. Seems like that is the only way in. Advice besides doing something that would end up on my record? Send me a note if you do not what it on the web. Thanks

If you've flown -130s on AD or the Guard, SOMEBODY at FDX has flown with you. Get hold of the seniority list and browbeat or bribe someone into sponsoring you. I just got an email from an Academy bud that I haven't talked to in 11 years. I can't sponsor him, but I'll write a rec. You might have better luck.

If you are former military, you have to know somebody here. You can't swing a dead cat in the AOC without smacking a few dozen pilots talking about their old squadron/buddies/exploits. Network, rinse, repeat. Oh wait, that might be for shampoo. Network with your old buds.

I am a Guard baby so the issue is a little different than the typical military guy. We only have 1 guy who just got on with FEDEX and he said his list of those to sponsor is very long since he came from AD. Time will tell. Thanks.

Reddog- I'm in the same boat I know several guys at FedEx but they are already sponsoring other guys. It has taken so long that some of these guys have been sponsoring the same person for over a year now. I was lucky a buddy just got hired and is sponsoring me now. My sponsor was able to get me a meet-n-greet before they quit doing that too. I also heard that the seniority of your sponsor carries a lot of weight now that FedEx has been flooded with apps. The ACP I met said back in AUG 05 that FedEx had over 11,000 pilot apps, 5000 qualified, 2000 had been to a meet-n-greet and are now in que for an interview depending on how much the sponsor works the app.

The point: Don't forget that guys can sponsor one but can write online recs for several. Also they can go to the AOC and throw support your way with the ACPs. It will at least help get your app noticed more often. Good luck

And this is why FedEx is attending Air Inc and posting pilot job annoucements on the internet, all for their 450 pilot hiring frenzy

That 10000 apps on file number is something management likes to throw around in an effort to placate the crewforce. Management also likes to say that we are the envy of the aviation world and that every other pilot on the planet would kill to have a chance at our job.

It is all BS!

I have no doubt that there are thousands of apps on file at FedEx. With the online app anybody with a $50 debit card can put one in there, whether they are qualified or not. In fact, I know that you can apply and not even have your FE written completed.

Another fact is that we are growing and will need to hire a lot of pilots this year. Like any quality company, FedEx is trying to identify the applicants who they think will be most successful here, regardless of your background or experience. The only way you can be one of those hired is to put in the app, network like crazy, get the recs and a sponsor, and keep UPDATING your online profile.

Don't be dissuaded by negativity or perceived long odds. Just do it!

I don't doubt the numbers are inflated, but the ACP clarified that not all even have the required time time to apply. I would say the 2000 number is probably a more accurate amount of apps eligible for interview. Getting your app to the top of that 2000 pile takes work by your sponsor (according to my sponsor anyway). I buy my sponsor beer as often as possible...

Just something to keep in mind.... Yes, you can complete the application even if you don't meet the qualifications. If Fedex is something you might want in the future, now IS a good time to fill it out. Sometimes, Fedex will CLOSE the application window, and only look at apps already on file. Only those pilots that had their stuff in can get on and update. So, if you are in the military for a few more years, or still working on your PIC turbine, and think this might be a place for you in your future, go ahead and get the app done, since you don't know what will happen later.

Ok, I am not trying to get more moolah or anything for the company with the app fee. But I do remember the window was closed back in 2000 or so to early 2002... so it is just a suggestion.

...I told my buddy who is an F15 Squadron CC the same thing a year ago and he's got an app on file even though he's 18 months (at a min) from being able to retire. Get in the system if you want to play...
