Some of the contract carriers carry the same callsign as the carrier they are flying for.... e.g. Gemini carries at FedEx callsign when they operate the FedEx flights.

Fedex has an entire department devoted to buying and selling aircraft on the world market just because it's a good way to make $$. This may have been one of those aircraft.

Could be one of the old Flying Tiger's birds headed to the desert. I still see the White / Purple tail flying around.

For years, FedEx Express has been developing the Sacramento - Mojave route as one of our promising money-makers on the west coast. It's obvious since the company needed to put a 747-300 that express freight AND heavy freight demand screams for such an aircraft.

Scope violation, no. Incredible demand for FedEx's Express Delivery service, absolutely!

......that must be why Flt. Standards keeps asking me to head up a new 747 department.......I'll think about it. I enjoy my Laredo - Memphis night hub-turns right now......

"Fedex" 743

The 743 was in Air Atlanta colors, saw them on the ramp in LAX at the FDX MX facility.
LAX Ground was also confused by the callsign and then seing a 74. The crew said they were doing a test flight a little over an hour long.
The flightaware tracks look like they went up to SAC and came back to go to MHV.

Oh and here's the photographic "evidence":

Do you mean "sell" desert queens to people around the world? Then, yes.

When I was at DM, there were people coming from all over to take a look at some our former VIP transports formerly used by the government. Pretty wild to see their pilots come in and fly off a "personal" 707 or 727 to a conversion site.

Another MD-11 leaves the desert

Former Delta N808DE left GYR for ANC as FDX9041 5/04/06 GYR-ANC to a final desination in Singapore (QPG) . . . anyone been to QPG to know what goes on there with conversions? Obviously, I'm bored.

QPG is one of our main sites for MD11 heavy maintenance (C checks) and cargo conversions.
