what is the current number of pilots on the seniority list and how many are to be retiring each eah year for the next 5-6 years and what is the Fed Ex projection for hiring in the next 2 years

Number of pilots: 4470
Retirements over the next 5-6 yrs: 900-1000
Hiring: Who knows? Rumors are hiring will be constant over the next few years, but that could change.

about 4300 currently on the rolls. 125 scheduled to retire in '05. Beyond that, 150+ per year for the next 10+ years (Age 60.......we'll see what that changes). Management confirmed 300 new hires have been approved for this year. Operations wants 500 this year and it will probably be approved (200 will have begun training by end april) (Bean counters waiting until new fiscal year to approve more hiring this calendar year). VP Ops recently told pilot group that over the next 5 to 10 years, our total pilot force could reach 5500 to 6000 (we'll see about that too). Boatloads of new (incremental) aircraft are coming (Airbus/MD11) as well as a replacement for the 727 (737 or 757).

I have posted all the retirements by year from our pilot web site. Run a search and you should find it.

4470 are the listed pilot assigned seniority numbers. these are updated every summer. there were quite a few retirements this past 9 months which probably bring the total number of pilots on property in the 4300 neighborhood. The actual number will be updated in Jun/july.

Brownie: Here are the numbers from the website for the next 15 years.

2005 125
2006 159
2007 168
2008 159
2009 136
2010 164
2011 154
2012 188
2013 183
2014 154
2015 176
2016 204
2017 205
2018 209
2019 206
2020 190

That is 2780 pilots to retire by the end of 2020 just to the age 60 rule. There could of course be more who retire early or medical out before 60.
