Okay guys/galls,

Ive got a buddy that is starting Fed Ex in about two weeks and wanted to get some opinions concerning what aircraft to bid if he has a choice. Rumor has it that he may be able to bid the MD-11 as a new hire instead of FE on the 727 or DC-10. He has a Lr 35 & 45 type,Citation X type, some limited time flying an RJ and around 5000 JET time. Point is, he has a solid amount of GLASS experience but little Part 121 time. Someone stated that the washout rate on the MD-11 is pretty high and that the safe thing to do as a new hire was bid FE until you are off probation. So, what do you guys/galls think.

Thanks

Pick the 727 F/O position. A great job that pays well. The MD-11 will not be available to newhires, after your buddy gets @ 5-6 months on the property he'll more than likely get to bid for an MD-11:)

The 727 S/O job is simply that, a job. It's a pretty extensive training program that is mind-numbing on a good day. And according to a "infamous Flt Info" Delta "double-breasted coat" pilot, it's apparently insulting to take requests from lazy 727 F/O's.......an ego problem and little chip on his/her shoulder.....even after his/her company lost 5.5 BILLION last year! whatever!

The DC-10 S/O position is slowly fading away, you'll more than likely sit on Reserve until you get "excessed" or decide you've had enough.
