Just to add a bit of clarification to the post from Blondeambition:

Yes, the FE ticket is mandatory... however, the prep time can be completed in one day. If you are willing to drop about 200 bones for a day on a computer at an "All ATP" site (1-800-ALL-ATPS) you can be spun up and knock out the FE exam the very next morning, with the certificate in hand as you walk out the door.

There are cheaper ways (ie, $20 bucks for a prep book and a lot of studying at home, followed by testing at an FAA testing facility somewhere. However, for me... the ALL-ATPS gig was the best way to go.

Whatever is best for you... but you need it to get a call from FedEx.

Good Luck,

I called ALL ATPS last night and you can actually take the test before you leave on day 1 and you're done. I have to spend $250 on a test, but it sounds like the best way to jump through that hoop.
