(1) How long is the 11 syllabus for newhires?
(2) I know there has been discussion on this board that in light of the sudden increase in newhires going to the 11, that the syllabus needs to be/should be revised/aligned accordingly taking into consideration that newhires have no idea how things run at FedEx...has that been done?
(3) From what I've heard through friends is that a considerable amount of the trouble that newhires have when starting with FedEx in any right seat syllabus is trying to learn all the 'FedEx' stuff, not necessarily the flying part. Vast majority going to the right seat trng at FedEx were/are upgraders, not new to the company. Therefore, all they have to be concerned with is learning a new airplane, not so much FedEx operations. Is this true? Will the newhire classes going to the rightseat get 'FedEx 101'?
Thanks in advance!

You'll get one week of BI...Basic Indoc. It'll teach you alot, but not everything. Some stuff, like bidding, really isn't covered. However, if you go to the -11, by the time you hit the line after 4 mos, you'll have absorbed alot about how things work at FDX. Then pummel your IOE instructor with questions. Finally, expect to learn something new all the time your first year on the line. You'll make bidding errors, deviation check in errors, sick/well errors, mil leave errors...I've been here almost 2 years and I'm still learning monthly. Don't stress about it.

They sent a couple of new hires to Subic recently and training/standards
acommodated them nicely. All the admin stuff will be well explained. The IOE instructors will have a few more squares to fill !!

So, instead of $2,000/mo. for 2 months of 727 panel training, you can now get $2,000/mo. for 4 months for MD-11 training. Year 2 will be good pay though.

Well, it is much longer. My F/O on the Airbus was a new hire headed to Subic. The day I started class he had been at FedEx for about an extra month. He watched Sims, jumpseated with LCA, went through the FOM class 3 times. He did a lot of stuff before he started the regular syllabus. He was on training pay for an extra month or two. Of course he had to do his IOE mostly in Subic, so he had a long move ordeal also before his IOE in Subic. If you get hired into the right seat of a wide body I'd count a 4 1/2 months before you are up and flying the line. Of course second year pay will be about $120/hr, more if we get a contract so it's worth the wait. Go "Big" if you can.
On the flip side I was hired into the right seat of the "whistling s%$t house" 727 and our training was not extended.

The New Hire to MD-11 syllabus is different that the regular training pipeline. It will include mandatory cockpit jumpseat fam flights and the like... not sure the time frame. But take a window seat if you can, you NEVER know when the next seat bid will be......
