Anyone attempt to do this recently? It appears the online application is not functional. What forms are you supposed to complete? Main Form 605? Any schedules? Form 159?

If you go here:
http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/
and click the Online Filing Button

You get:
This Application Link is No Longer Valid
The links to ULS and ASR applications have recently been updated and this link is no longer valid. You can find current application links at either ULS Home or ASR Home.

What the f#$%!

Just used the online filing last month, using credit card online payment, got the card in less than 2 weeks, quick and painless.
I looked at the site, yeah, something's up, maybe they'll get it together on Monday, after coffee break?

"Judging by the info here, you only need an RP when you fly outside the US or operate on UHF freqs."

I think you would need one for operating an HF aeronautical station (and if you were flying an aircraft equipped w/ HF, I suspect you might occasionally be flying outside the US)

also perhaps the rare civilian, non-federal UHF installation but most UHF aviation systems are military or other federal.

federal (including military) frequency assignments and regulations are by the NTIA (a branch of your Department of Commerce), not the FCC. The FCC regulates all private, and non-federal governmental frequency use but not federal. the FCC and NTIA coordinate to prevent interference between the federal users regulated by NTIA and non-federal regulated by FCC.

there might be an additional licensing requirement for federal or military UHF operation, but it isn't from the FCC.

My most recent one is from 1985 (another from '79 when I took a few lessons and couldn't find it until latter) when I got a Pvt. Now that I operate an aircraft occasionally international with HF capability, should I look into updating it? What are the particulars on the HF requirement for the permit? Are there different blocks to check for the different freq. ranges? Is this the same consideration for the aircraft license? I haven't had a chance to look at it closely, but an HF Operating Manual I just got for the plane (the HF radio has been installed for some time, but had no manual since I've been with the plane) indicates that the radio station license must specify the freq. ranges - i.e. VHF, HF ect.

I recall that when I went looking for the info last year, there were two forms, one for the RRO and the other for the payment to the government.

This is another thing that used to be "free." Mine is from my radio days.

This is the most BS/worthless piece of paper you will ever carry. With it you can....well, operate a radio. Without it you can....well, operate a radio. I paid the money several years ago and have yet to actually show it to anyone official. Venting complete!!!!
