All I can say is bone up (heh heh) on your Morse Code. Also, make sure you know which freq's ILS are (odd tenths below 112.0 or something). Other than that it's pretty easy.

Oh, know your acronyms too (VOR, ADF, PKT, MLS, SQRRR, etc).

When I got mine it was fill out the application and pay the money. No test required.
