I was looking around at some regionals even though I don't have the experience yet to be hired most likely..butt anyhow...very early into one of the apps we get to the "traffic tickets" etc. I had a slew of tickets when I was a teenager (a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away). Of course I am not remembering all the charges/dates/dispositions (ruskie dialect) and so I sent away for an FBI background check. Had to send $18 money order and fingerprints and now get to wait on it for like 2 months. Anyone else ordered one? Do they have all the information that you need?

I dunno, but when I got hired as a groundling, the particular airline had the background check done in less than a week. In my case, they only had like 2-3 months of background to look through ;)

Driving Record

The FBI check is a criminal check, so you won't find any traffic violations unless they involved criminal charges or something. You need to get a copy of your National Driving Record and probably a state report from any state where you received a ticket. You can get a state report from your local DMV, you have to send away for the NDR. I'm not 100% sure on the process, but many others here are and can chime in. I know it takes a while (a month maybe) to get the NDR so don't wait until the last minute to check if you think you might have an interview coming up.

hmmmmmmmm.....the guy I spoke with (G-Man) said that it would include everything. Now, I'm wondering if I need to file something else.

If you're worried about traffic tickets or traffic violations, moving or non-moving, then an FBI check won't do you any good. What you need to do is go to your Motor Vehicle office and get your driving history/record. That usually will go back 5 years and some go back further. Everything is on there that you need. I wouldn't waste money on criminal background check because the airline will do one themselves anyway. Prior to applying to a regional myself, I had a FBI background check as well as got copy of my driving history, etc. Of which the airline didn't really care about because when I told them I had copies, they said it's their policy to do one anyway. I should have saved me the couple of bucks, but oh well. Where the driving history was really helpful was that when on the application it asks you for your tickets, dui/dwi, etc., with dates and stuff, you have a copy right in front of you and you can be exact with the dates and the summons, etc. Mine only went back 5 years and they ask for like something 10 years back so I told them that I only had a record of my past 5 years and that I can't remember the tickets prior to that and I'm not going to list them. They were happy with that because you don't want to put down anything. Plus you can't lie or cover up because the company will also do a driving record check as well on you.

Well I have a good many tickets (over 20 years old). If I say I don't then I'm lying. Driving records only go back 10 years and so I'm screwed getting it that way. I'd have to go to the courthouse in every county/state I ever had a ticket in. That sucks. That was what I thought I was getting around.

No you don't have to go to every courthouse in every state. Read what I said in my other post. During my interview, the application asked to list all tickets, moving violations, dui/dwi, etc for the past 10 years or so I think. Even though I've been driving for over 5 years when I was filling out the paperwork, I only had the record for the last 5 years. Even though I know for a fact that I got some tickets that were over 5 years old, I couldn't remember the dates or places, etc. So the person that was there taking my application, I told her that I only could put down the last 5 years of my driving record because that's all I was able to obtain through the motor vehicle office and that there were some tickets that are over 5 years old, but I cannot be sure of the dates or location, etc. so I am not going to list those but rather list only those that I have proof of. She said that was fine and that there was no problem with doing that. I also told her that I didn't want it to come back and bite me in the ass by them saying that I had these tickets and that I didn't disclose them on the application, etc. She said that I made her aware and that there should not be a problem. Well I guess she was right because I'm flying the jet now :D So in other words, you're sweating it too much I think. Just get your driving record, and list what you have proof of, even though you know you got tickets that go back longer that what your driving history states, don't bother listing those, but rather make sure you mention that to the person collecting your application so this way there is no confusion.
