How are airlines going to make money again?

A blog on USAToday.com blog touts “ridiculously low” rates for travelers and notes that “even those hoping to travel during the peak period summer months stand to benefit.”

Qantas Airlines is doing its part to lure travelers to Australia. It’s offering one-way tickets from Los Angeles or San Francisco to several Australian cities for $299 (assuming a round-trip purchase). The Qantas site explains that price includes fuel surcharges but additional taxes and fees will add $150 to $200 to the ticket price, depending on the itinerary. The offer is good for travel through Oct. 24.
