I am a pilot for a regional airline...therefore, I have a 'commercial' flight limitation of 1000 hrs per year. Now, my question is this...I have a friend that would like me to repo general aviation aircraft for him once in a while (ie I fly out to where the plane is, pick it up, and fly it back to where he works--he buys and sells airplanes for a company). I would really enjoy doing this, but, obviously I can't do it if it is commerical flying, because my company needs the 1000 hrs.

The deal is the company would pay for all your expenses (hotel, food, gas, etc) involved in repo'ing the plane, as well as $100 a day for your work. Now, I would assume the company just paying the expenses would not constitute commerical flying (ie you aren't getting paid), but the $100 they pay you would throw it into the commerical flying department. So therefore, I cannot do it. Is that correct thinking? What if I were to do it for fun, and just have them pay my expenses? Could I do it then?

Would you be flying these aircraft if you weren't receiving any money (per deim, meals, etc)? If not, the FAA would consider the flying commercial. Also consider that the purpose of moving the aircraft is of a commercial nature (selling the a/c).

Your company may prohibit outside flying, check your operations manual or ask your chief pilot.
