Does anyone know what the ExpressJet Phone interview is like?
i.e. I heard that they ask 3 questions... what are they? Any help would be greatly appreciated

1. Passenger complains to you about your hard landing, what do you do?

2. You are due to depart in 2 hours and there are currently thunderstorms over your destination, what are you going to do?

3. How would you provide excellent customer service to ExpressJet customers?

BTW... the phone screening is conducted by a third party "telemarketing" type organization. They are not pilots and really can't clarify or provide any additional information other than what's in the question.

Did you apply online. Did they call you or did you call them. I applied online and it brought me to a page that had a phone number for the recruiters. It said that I needed to call within the next 24 hrs. Just wondering if you did the same thing.

Applying online is the only way to apply. And yes, I called the recruiters within a few minutes of completing the application. Be sure to have your paragraph printed out to read.

reddie2fly,

I had the same questions as raysalmon did. Another is: "How many times would your employer say you were late in last 12 months." Other than that raysalmon nailed the phone interview exactly. Very relaxing and they will ask if you have any questions.

raysalmon or anyone else,

Have you got the call for an interview yet? If so, how long did it take after you did the phone interview?

Also, the woman I spoke with stated they will call to let you know if you were selected for an interview or not.

Hoping for some good news!

Best of luck!

My last appt. date as shown on the website was 1/5/04. I was called for an interview about one and a half to two weeks prior to the interview date. Interview date was 2/16/04. There are two in-person interview phases, usually done on different days. You have to pass the first one to get called back to the second. If you're not called, you're supposed to get a letter thanking you for your interest in ExpressJet.

I attended the first in-person interview but did not get called for the final interview, nor have I received a letter, so I suspect very highly that I'm out, but not sure why the letter which was supposed to arrive "in a few days" hasn't come yet.

And yes, I was also asked about how many times my employer would say I had been late in the phone interview, just forgot they asked that question:)

I believe that if you don't make it passed the phone interview, you receive a postcard within about 10 business days letting you know that you're out. If you don't get the card, then you're in for an interview, just a matter of waiting it out until they call you. They only call you if they want to interview you, and then the call comes from the interviewers themselves at ExpressJet (the famous "Senior Recruiter", not the telemarketing company)

As for the contents of the first in-person interview, there is some excellent and accurate gouge on www.aviationinterviews.com that is well worth your perusal.

hope this all helped a little,

Ray

My suggestion would be to try and find out! If your online application does not meet their hiring minimums (the flight time portion of which are not officially advertised) then I think you'll get a very nice email saying that the computer couldn't match your qualifications with any open job posting. If it does, then you're on to the phone screening.

One thing to keep in mind and a word of warning: The questions on the online app (as far as I can remember) are not very specific when it comes to flight time and experience. The phone screener does not ask you ANYTHING about your flight times and experience. As a result, the very first time the real recruiters really get to see your qualifications and epxerience in detail is at the first in-person interview. While one is giving the company intro and overview, the other 2 are in another room scouring your logs, resume and flight time grid. If, after looking at your stuff, they do not feel that you're competitive, you will be thanked and invited to take the next shuttle back to the airport BEFORE they begin the actual interview segment of the day. During our interview day, 2 people magically disappeared in between company overview and actual interview. THEREFORE, just because you make it to the interview doesn't necessarily mean you meet their competitive minimums, which is VERY different from just about every other airline.

Having said that, I don't for sure why they were invited to leave, that's just my best guess.

Yes as a matter of fact I have just a bit under 500. I even put that I have less than 499 on the online app. I was told by a friend who is an XJT check airman that they just lowered their mins. I don't think that it is published though. I think they are taking it on a case by case basis. I have 450 multi right now and still got the phone interview.

I hope that they lowered them, if not I'm running on a lot of false hope that I might actually get an interview.

Best of luck

j41,

I also have 450 multi and got to the phone interview. As ray stated, try it! Ray definitely is explaining the whole process to a tee.

Ray,

Thanks for such detailed info, gives us guys a step behind you some help!

I wish you the best of luck with receiving good news!

phone interview...

Hi all,

Just wondering, what are the typical answers for questions posted above, in second post? (what answers they want to hear)?
Also, are there other/different q's asked in phone interview?

Thanks.

These were my answers:

1. I would apologize to the passenger and smile. (Looking for agreeable personality)

2. I would check the forecast to ensure that the thunderstorms would have moved away from our destination prior to our ETA. (Considering DEPARTURE is still 2 hours away, and then you've got however long to get there, chances are the thunderstorms are long gone, along with all their siblings)

Since the right answer was rather obvious and simple, I think this question was looking for attention to detail. You had to pay attention to where the thunderstorms were at, and the fact you're still 2 hours form departure. It's easy, when you're under pressure, to mis-hear or mis-read the question and give the wrong answer accordingly, so listen carefully and make sure you've got it right before you plow head first into your answer.

3. (Late question was actually No. 3) I am not aware of any time that I have been late for a flight, so I would say my employer would say never. (In other words, are you a good employee?)

4. Within the realms of operating to the highest safety standards, I would seek to provide them the most comfortable ride possible, and treat them with courtesy and respect. (Do you have the first clue about what's going on in the back, or are you purely a levers and switches guy/gal ?)

...

Official minimums are still 1500/500, they haven't lowered them yet, though I've heard of "thoughts" of doing it. Don't have 1500/500, don't waste your time.

1000/200.

Per the IAH Chief Pilot's mouth approximately 24 hours ago. "Man, lots of interviews today." "Hey, are we lowering the minimums, I've heard rumors?" "Well, we've thought about it, but since we continue to have qualified applicants, what's the point?" "So at this time, no, it's still 1500/500." I'll be the first to admit I've heard some have squeaked in "just" under the radar, but they are like good friend with interviewers, etc. So I stand by my original 1500/500 statement, but as soon as I hear a definative YES, they are lowered, I'll be the first to say so, more numbers below me is always good!

Has anyone had a telephone interview in the last few days? I'm wondering if these are the same questions they're asking.

Any updates would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm about to fill out the online application and want to be prepare for the phone call.

Thanks

Tom

How long from initial phone call till you hear back from recruiter? I was told 60-90 days. Does it really take that long?
