Yes...some pilots from all airlines do the ridiculous "with you" thing but it seems to come more often from younger pilots. Some of the radio stuff from EVERYONE is simpy atrocious, including "cleared to go" instead of the more explicit "cleared for take-off". Whatever happened to "requesting....." instead of the gawd-awful "any chance....". "Expressjet 234 requesting direct Industry" sounds a lot better and more professional than the wimpy "Any chance Expressjet can get direct Industry?"
Another thing..when you get a freq. change it's not an emergency...you don't have to check in with the new controller that very instant...listen a few seconds so you don't block a current transmission...and if the controller doesn't answer right away....wait a full minute and try again....usually in that minute he will answer you anyway because he actually heard you while he was doing some co-ordination. Cracks me up (and irritates controllers) to hear some pilots re-trying the check-in every 5 seconds with the obnoxious "over" added. The controllers are currently being over-worked.....give 'em a few seconds.
I agree, expressjet has it's share of problems when it comes to using proper radio phraseology, but I actually think they're better than some other regionals because of the amount of International flying they do.
Most of xjet's new FO's are 600 hour wonders who's first flight above 10,000 ft might be today in that ERJ passing 1000 ft above you at FL370. Unfortunately there's really no good way to bring up radio phraseology in a non training environment unless you want to sound like a tool bag and create an awkward work environment for the remainder of the trip. Perhaps the check arimen aren't emphasizing it because they have they're hands full just teaching people to fly the plane.
I really wish people would crack open the AIM and take a look every once in a while.
