And lets not forget the infamous "how much multi time do you have in the last six months?". This one continues to bite me in the a$$, since I'm a jump pilot and fly a piston single. Also, being a jump pilot means that I'm broke and can't afford to buy more twin time. Someone hand me a Kleenex, I'm starting to cry on my laptop...

Multi

How much multi do they want in the past 6 months? I'm shooting for minimums. Well that how much I can afford. **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** you ERAU LOANS!!

What'll bite me in the ass is the lack of having a flying job. 40hrs of multi PIC per month aint gonna cut it apprently. Gotta have that CFI job flying 152s in the pattern and living off Ramen to prove to them yer a professional pilot.

What a relief that Vikram will not be flying for a regional anytime soon.
40 hours a month Flight Sim time on a PA44 will not be enough.Go get your CFI and demonstrate to potential employer's that you a worth the interview.

That is probably why they want potential new hires to hold a "current" pilot position. I cannot blame them and applaud this move to ensure they are getting some decent folks at the interview process. I had to laugh when by buddy thought that buying a light twin, building his hours up, etc, was his "in'' to ExpressJet, Ooooops!! !!. Anyone know if JD still has the cane around to hit a few of these folks?:D - Never forget that baby in the Rosewood room, ahhh those were the days.

When I hired on it was quite clear what they were looking for: people who have worked their @sses off to get their flying experience. That's why a person's TT is not really relevant (altho the mins were quite a bit higher when I was hired, I suspect this was to limit the sheer number of applicants so as to make the process more managable).

This is why, time and time again, those who have simply paid copious amounts of money to warm a right seat or just burning holes in the sky in some light twin are sent home with a "thanks, but no thanks."

It's the work ethic they are looking for, folks. Someone who has refused to work hard by CFI'ing or hauling freight single-pilot is hardly going to be the type to work hard at xjt. (Of course, I did both of the above and I still whine about working here, LOL. But you get the point.)

For those who don't want to do the CFI/Freight/other work-intensive flying position, that's great. But just don't expect to get hired on here because that is our hiring department's little quirk. There are other airlines out there that don't put so much emphasis on this area, so concentrate on getting an interview there instead.

good luck to all...whichever airline you end up at.

VIK, My man, you gotta be kidding here. Go CFI for awhile, get some more time logged and things will fall into place. If you've got enogh money to get 40 hrs multi PIC per month, you should have no problem holding out for that "primo" flying job.

Everyone's situation is different. Just because they aren't flying night freight and/or CFIing doesn't mean they aren't working hard and all they are doing is burning holes in the sky. I guess some outside the box thinking could involve working hard and getting to build quality multi time in the process.

I guess we'll have to see what they think if I decide to apply there.

I support my parents, so I can't drop what I'm doing and go CFI. I'm not buying my time either, so its not sweat off my back flying those 40hrs per month. They're almost free. It would be a sin if I didn't take advantage of the opportunity I have right now.

I will eventually go get my CFI and instruct. I used to teach before, so its not anything new to me and I love teaching. Just can't feed 3 other people and put a sibling through college CFIing.

Rule of Dumb, you wanna meet on the playground (after school of course)? Gotta be quick though, I got MS Flt Sim lessons by 4pm.

I'm hoping that the interview process is where we get to explain our individual situations. You see that...

Traditionally, the pay of a jump pilot is a little on the low side. $15/hour sounds good, until you take a closer look at what a typical day is. 14-18 loads of .3 to .6 duration. The money doesn't exactly pile up. SOOOO, I supplement it by landscaping (off the books) between 7am and 45 min before my first load. That money doesn't actually allow me to drive a Jag, but I can feed my daughter and keep a smile on my face.

To XJT's credit, they recognize the jump pilot time as being valid, but the multi requirement still looms. My multi time is a few years old, but is also valid, just not current.

I want to be employed as a regional pilot. Therefore, I may b!tch, but I'll still do what I have to in order to make it happen.

I know they like to see Multi time in actual. They are real big on current multi-time. I am unsure of how much but they do like it. Just get what you can multi and study for the interview.

Get your MEI and find a flight school with a couple twins. Thats how I built up my twin time. Instructing is all about paying your dues. Many others have done it and many others will continue to do it. Have fun instructing most people dont do it for long. There definitly wont be any flight time like it else where. Have fun guys, keep that flight time coming. Every flight we do with a student or dumping skydivers it gets us that much closer to were we want to be.

I to am waiting for the call also and I hope everyone gets on.

Good luck.

Why is xjet hiring so heavily ? Enough new planes and routes to warrant hiring so many ? Are they expecting alot of senior pilots to leave ?

I'm just curious.

From what i understand its because of,
New planes recalls and people moving on to other carriers. Alot to do with recalls to CAL. Best of all for everyone is growth.

Still waiting for the bus to stop so i can be part of the growth.
