I'm transitioning out of the military and want to get into civilian flying. How is Express Jet (Continental) as an airline to work for? I know the pay is not the greatest, but I live in San Anton and want to stay so I figure the commute to Houston would not be bad. Thanks in advance for any information.

Its one of the best airlines to work for. The pilot group is one of the best and the most unified I have seen and most are supper friendly. I would not worry about the pay, we are in contarct negotiations and we should get something in par with the others.
There is going to be lots of expansion so the upgrade times are dropping quickly. the 400 or so flowbacks are all going back within the next 1 1/2 years and there are another 700 pilots with job offers from CAL that will be gone after that. As far as rumors go there are plenty. We are moving the EFD ops to HOU and I believe we are going to be doing some point to point flying matching SWA routes soon. If you can get the job its a great place, and the training dept is the graet too.

Obi-Wan,
"700 pilots with job offers from CAL"? Anything beyond Schindler's list is news to me . . . do tell!

Sideshowbob,

My friends there love it, but the junior base is EWR (Newark, NJ)---so you might have to commute there if you can't get IAH right away. That might be tough from SAT. They love the planes, and the interesting routes---good variety.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes: ;)

People who interviewed and got the affirmative letter from CAL. However without getting the FTA pay or bounce back to Express rights some may not go over.

Do they really like prior 121 experience? What are typical CFI's getting in with? (time wise, of course)

most of the guys i interviewed with both times had at least 1800 hours and many had jet time with types. very few cfi's except the occasional. freight, corporate, 121 guys, 135, mainly all types of experience, but nobody with less than 500 multi that i talked to.

I will add my 2 cents worth since I am one of those new hires at Express Jet. I am a ground instructor at DAL and was a CFI on the side building my time. I came in with 1800 and 700 with ATP, CFII, MEI and no type rating but a lot of sim experience B757/767 and B737NG. Most of the guys were flying jets or at other regionals. most had over 2000 hrs. I may have been the low time guy in my group. Interview was fairly straight forward.

Almost all the pilots I have talked too have been great. No attitudes or negatism. Most have their typical gripes about pay and stuff but all seem to really like the flying and the comraderie of the group. I agree with Obi-wan that they seem to be very unified as a group which I think is important. Lots of growth. I also talked to a good friend at CAL and the number of those flowing up is more like 112. Thats the number I got and from him. His take is that those guys would move up late this year maybe early next year. But he did state that they are definitely going to bring guys up from Expressjet. They remember the flow back and want to reciprocate when they start hiring which is a good thing.

If you look at all the majors and their financials. CAL is in the best position and now with Expressjet being its own entity it can go and bid for outside flying which will hopefully spur even more growth.

I spoke with someone in crew scheduling and the junior base is EWR but their is a lot of growth coming to IAH. Holding a line in EWR will probably take 2-4 months depending on how things ramp up and where they place new hires right out of training.

My 2 cents worth is that out of the regionals out there that are hiring and experiencing growth, when you look at the overall situation this is the place to be. I am glad I am a newbie at Expressjet and not somewhere like Eagle or Mesa or ASA.

sideshowbob...
xjt is one of the best regoinal out there to work for right now. All jet fleet, great people, good reputation. Beats the competition by far. Go for it!!!

Minimums

I have done a search and notice no one really knows for sure the minimums. So far I have seen 1500/500, 1200/200 and now 1000/200. Does anyone really know for sure.

I belive that "700" is more like 112 according to CALALPA.

On Monday, Feb. 19, ALPA and CAL management agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding addressing CAL employment for 112 CALEX pilots. The MOU resolves a lingering dispute over the employment rights and entitlements of these pilots and confirms that they will be the first pilots hired at Continental once CAL has recalled all furloughed pilots. A copy of the MOU is posted on our website.

For the record: It is the best regional(trying to change classification so we can all make more money)
best people, good equipment and probably a good contract coming up!!! Hopefully by the end of the year I will be in a class!!!

Yes, the 112 are confirmed. There are also many others who went through the interview and have job offers. I have heard there are about 400 of them ( the 700 was a typo) The common consensus is that CAl will take them like the 112 just to wash their hands off XJT. That would be wonderful.

Any of you current XJET guys know if there's actually internal employees being interviewed with the 500/100? I've got the opportunity to work an outstation ramp for XJET, if it'll help me get the interview. Also, is there a set amount of time you have to wait (after being in another position...C.S.A) before applying for a F/O slot? Thx.

I know the mins for interns are 500/100, I don't know if this would apply to other employees or not. But internal employee do get preferential treatment.

I have an interview on Monday the 8th of March with XJT, I have not yet recieved an email with what to bring and travel info etc, does anybody have Dawn's email so I can email her and check up on this thanks, please just pm me the address.

Thanks
