I just looked at aviation interviews and it look slike a 600/100 guy just got picked up. Are they back into a hiring spree? It seemed to slow for a bit there as high time guys were getting the "email". Dont really understand what is going on with that. I faxed in after 4 months (about a month ago) with roughly 1200/130... which isn't very high, but they didnt even get back to me. Anyone have any updated info?

The low timer was probably an internal applicant. I don't know what is competitive right now, but the hiring is still going fairly strong for the time being.

Yes, they are very much still hiring. Don't know at what rate, but the training center is up and running 24/7.

They held interviews today

It's great that they're hiring again...however, the hiring practices are a bit confusing/frustrating. I have a friend who has approx. 1800/200 and was told with no 121/135 exp...no dice. Then they hire the 600/100 guys. I don't get it. Is everything at the whim of the lady in charge?

that seems to be the key....
ex..There is "The Class" where 13 out of 15 are....????

a. men

b. women

c. hermaphrodites

d. monkeys

takes alot of applicants to get 13 of b, c, or d in one class

well maybe not d but a few trips to the zoo anyhow...

I don't mind a bunch of Bs in the pilot group, since we only seem to hire As for the flight attendant group.

touche...although there might be some Cs in the back...But I'm not looking under the hood..

I think all new hires at XJT should be informed about the Capacity Purchase Agreement. This document allows us to be the exclusive provider of RJ feed to CAL......IT EXPIRES IN 2007. Everyone has seen whats happened to Air Whiskey, ACA, MESA(shudder) and the whole regional industry. Anyone coming to XJT should consider that and not expect everyone here to take a pay cut so you keep your jobs. I'm sick of this attitude that Furloughs are the most horrible thing in the world. So is a crap consesionary contract!

don't worry by that time you will be across the street..20/30 per month is the word on the street...
Thought they were renegotiating the CPA...Read we keep our flying...Say good-bye to profit sharing...Although I must admit I haven't been paying attention...

When did you hear all this? I'd love the CPA thing to be true, although not the profit sharing...

20-30 for the pips from training center..GC to be exact..Although I wouldn't hold my breath until its official...

As far as the CPA...I think I heard it a few times under 10,000 so I can't confirm or deny..but hey I got another good rumor for you..

we can bid paint shop cpt down in Saltillo or next bid...Pay is 200 pesos plus a 6er of SOL per day and all the migas you can eat...

the low time guys you see on Aviation Interviews most likely fall under that agreement XJT has with ATP flight school, where their instructors have greatly reduced minimums to get an interview. Otherwise I believe 121/135 experience is a must. Plus I recall reading an article in Flying a couple of months ago where Flight Safety also signed into an agreement with XJT for some sort of reduced minimums.

Exactly.

Company in 2007: We need you to take a pay freeze like Comair did or CAL is going to give 1/3 of our flying to Mesa and we will be forced to furlough pilots.

Pilot group via vote: Not just "no", but FU*K NO! We already have borderline concessionary pay rates in the first place.

Now CAL is infected with the Mesa disease. Sigh...

Surely something to consider when applying here.

If this happens I really hope we as a pilot group grow some balls and stand up for ourselves.

The first thing we need to do is get rid of the threat of furloughs. THis can be done by informing guys getting hired and interviewing right now that this could happen. I do not want the "Megan O'neil" Syndrome where some one who hasn't finished IOE thinks they are as entitled to their job as people who have been here for years. I am not trying to be selfish however you know the deal getting hired here. Why turn 1000 $70k a year jobs into 1000 $65K a year jobs to save 100 20K a year jobs?

The second thing we need to do is run the best airline we can. It needs to be the most cost effiecient regional in the biz. For you guys that start the APU on arrival this goes out to you. There is NO reason to crank that thing up. Leave it down and taxi on #2. BFD the pax have to listen to the hyd pump. We need to do our best effort to be on time, take 11 or 29. If overweight for 11 do a flaps 18 t/o. There are a lot of people who cannot think outside the box. There is a lot of waste here that can be fixed by us INSTEAD of taxing pay cuts.

1100 flights a day.....2 apu cycles per flight X $9 per cycle=9900$
Cut that in 1/2....or not even half because of the various hard stands so 40%....=$3960 saved per day=$118,800 per month =$1,425,600 per year in savings.....just by not starting the APU when you taxi into the gate.

Amen-

I did just hear from the horses mouth that we (XJT) will hire 48 in June and at least 32 in July and August. This is from the director of flight ops' voice mail

Agreed, but I taxi in on #1 instead of #2. This way, since we are not yet being paid off the cabin door, I keep #1 running with the becon on so ramp cannot (should not) open the bag door until I have G/P and a jetway driver. :D

Besides... when MGT "really" wants us to taxi in on #2, they will reverse the darn gustlock so the #2 lever can be advanced enough to taxi, without the gust lock having to be released.

Do you guys think that the flying might go to another carrier in 07? I could see some of it going else where. Maybe 30 to 50 aircraft.

1) There is not a regional out there that could pick up more then 50 aircraft for CAL. They dropped Skywest so as I see it they are out of the bidding. It seems like Colgan is F'n up there planes all the time and I do not see them getting jets. Unless Mesa has more aircraft then that sitting around in 07. Air Wisky just went in to contract with US for many years. CHQ is trying to go all 70 seaters and maybe 90 seater so CAL will not go with them. TSA prolly not. I do not see anyone else out there. Look how long it has taken to build the fleet up to where it is now. Something like 7 years.

2) Would this allow XJT to bid on flying for other companies?

3) I have heard that the EMB's are going to be parked after the third C check because of MX costs. That means XJT will start to park the first ones pretty soon(somewhere around 8 years).

4) If they do start parking them then they could start to take their options for 100 more.

These are just my thoughts
Props

We have Exclusivity until 2007 and the CPA until 2010. However CAL can give us 12 months notice if they want the agreement to end. MESA is the wild Card. They are loosing the US AIR flying and trying to get on with Untied. And we know what MESA is capable of. We can and have bid for other flying now. Problem is we have to find our own financing and no one wants to finance NEW 50 seat a/c. Seems they listen to the Boyd Group and feel there will be a ton of 50 seaters in the desert in a few years.

Well said, agreed.

Dont you think it would be to big of an undertaking to have someone move in and take over our flying? I mean look at us, we are so woven into CAL it would be very difficult to change that around. Our planes are our planes as long as we keep making the payments on them so CAL cant say ok MESA you fly these now. I could see CAL say hay we need you to do it cheeper and hopefully then we could either continue flying only for CAL or for CAL and another carrier. Who knows? I guess it will continue being interesting for years to come.
