I was watching Lou Dobbs on CNN last night. He has a list going of companies that are exporting America. These are companies who have outsourced customer service, help desk support, etc., to usually companies in India.

I am going to try to boycott these companies, as they are sending jobs overseas. They really do not get the big picture. If people are unemployed, then they will have no money to buy the goods that these companies are offering.

Here is a link to the list - one company on there is Delta Airlines. I spoke to someone in their reservations center about a week ago and she confirmed that they have sent jobs to India, mainly I guess tech support on reservations or customer service. Was kind of tired and only half listening....

Wal Mart?

It would help to know what part of these businesses have been exported before this list becomes useful. It's a little misleading in that way.

What was strangely missing from the list was Wal Mart. That is the one flawed aspect of a list like this. Although they may not have any paid jobs overseas, you can't buy anything in Wal Mart that is made in the USA. But they're innocent, right?

I noticed NW Airlines, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Goodrich, Continental Airlines and every major cell phone network available in there too. I think most of us would be hard pressed to do our jobs without these companies.

It's a noble effort, but realistically I think this train is unstoppable. It's wrong, but in the world economy I think it's unavoidable.

Capt Tex-
Where was Bill Clinton during the Vietnam war? Oh, I remember, he was protesting his country on foreign soil!

And who could forget his letter to the ROTC Colonel that read (paraphrase)"there are those who love their country but loath the military"

Just a few years ago, military service didn't matter to the liberal scumbags with Draft-Dodger Bill Clinton beating two brave WWII Veterans. What gives?

Once again, the truth defeats a liberal everytime!

...

"Truth beats a liberal..."

Ummm, what truth? If Bush was such a war hero and Clinton a draft-dodger, where is Bush's impeccable military record?

http://www.ocnus.net/artman/publish/article_9973.shtml

At least Clinton fessed up to being a dodger. Maybe not a noble thing to do, but a LOT of people did it. Not that is makes it any better...Bush may have signed up, but he didn't serve much, if at all. Not to mention he got the nice treatment. AWOL is a term thrown around a lot...

Do a Google search with "Bush military record" and see what you get. Read conservative and liberal views. The liberal views, strangely, offer dates, times, facts, and accounts. The conservative ones simply wave flags and say how great of a serviceman he was. Where's the truth? If it beats a "liberal" every time, I am yet to see the compelling evidence.

Go watch Sean Hannity lie out his ass. You seem to enjoy it...

Yes, all the highly coveted and high paying jobs are leaving. At least the Indians understand what you are talking about and actually try to solve your problem, even though they can be hard to understand.

For the most part the people answering the phones there have a technical degree, as opposed to the high school dropouts you talk to here in the US. And the product you buy is cheaper, because their costs are lower.

And that "giant sucking sound" you're hearing is the loss of jobs from the U.S. to other foreign countries. Why else do you think that we have a "jobless" recovery in the U.S.? Because all of the jobs being created are going overseas. But most of the blame should be placed on the companies themselves, not the U.S. government (though Congress and the President could do something to stop this). The best way to vote is with your wallet--the companies doing this may not listen to you, but they will listen to your money.

All recoveries have been jobless for the first 12-18 months. Greenspan mentioned that productivity and the economy as a whole cannot continue to grow at its current rate without an increase in jobs. There are jobs that cannot be exported, such as services, hands-on type jobs etc. Eventually the money saved by using cheap labor elsewhere will be spent on expansion here.

What jobs? Where? Who sent them overseas?

Facts and figures, gentlemen, facts and figures.

Everything else is emotional drivel... sounds good and gets the soccer moms and union members going, but that is all.

Either Dem or Rep President...

It doesn't matter. Those jobs were still going to be outsourced over seas. It has nothing to do with who is in the White House and everything to do with economics. Americans, for the most part, are not willing to work for the wages that these jobs pay. Besides, in the Philippines and India you get young people with Masters degrees that work in the customer service call centers. You most definitely will not find that here.

Now, what does matter is the fact that these American companies continue to receive huge tax breaks, even when they are outsourcing over seas. I am not sure if there should be a penalty for doing what it takes for the companies to remain competitive, but certainly they should not continue to receive the massive tax breaks that are getting in some cases.

I will say that I consider myself a very moderate Republican. Having said that, Bush is quickly losing my support. What is up his faith based intiatives, he was wrong about WMD in Iraq, his immigration policies...

If Bush wasn't president large corporations wouldn't care about profits, they would be all about helping people. Just like Nike, Walmart, Ford and others in the 90s. I do agree there should be tax incentives for companies who keep their jobs in the US and that the Bush administration could've done better. But, no matter who is in power, business will drive business. Eventually jobs will catch up with the growth just like in the past.

What the?

If Bush wasn't president large corporations wouldn't care about profits, they would be all about helping people.

WTF does that mean? You're being sarcastic I hope.

Its not just customer service folks. I saw a report on CBS a few months ago. they showed medical doctors in india reviewing x-rays taken in the US and making diagnosis over the web.

brave new world.

I guess they figure trial lawyers will have a tough time suing Dr. Bapat Patel in Bombay...

Funny you should mention trial lawyers. As I was reading how concerned people were with jobs being outsourced, I was inwardly thinking how much more of a crisis trial lawyers and the judicial system have caused.

Look no further than the doubling of homeowners insurance and our own overbearing flight minimums. Then delve into the realm of surgeons moving out of state because they can't afford to pay malpractice insurance there. Suing people is upping all of our insurance minimums across the boards and dealing a crushing blow to EVERY business financially. But what exactly is being changed to help individuals and businesses offset this? Nothing. So they look to quick-fix ideas, one of which may be outsourcing.

Careful of who is doing your taxes

I read somewhere that a lot of the tax places are sending tax returns to be processed overseas. I find that alarming. I certainly don't want someone in a foreign country with my social security number and financial info. Talk about an open door to identity fraud.

I say use Turbo tax - been using it for a long time and it's easy.

Speaking of tax returns...

I got a family member who works for one of those tax prep firms that gives the instant loan deal. Says all day long people walk in w/just a W2, made maybe ten to twenty grand, and they're getting a $4,000 tax "refund."

Yes, boy and girls, that ever so mislabeled "earned" income tax credit doles out your hard-earned money at such an eye-watering pace that you would literally crap your trou.

And to think there are still those featherheaded, pathetic, bed-wetting pu$$ies that even whisper the words "tax cuts for the rich" makes me want to sell everything I own, buy a .50 cal and a hummer and commence some serious population control.

Consider how hard and long each of you work to make enough just to pay that much in taxes and they dish it out so fast to one "two dependant single head of household". (read welfare mom)

Where's our conservative president on this one?!?!

Every day I hear about another 10 to 20 sad sacks collecting between 2 and 4 thousand bucks in the enormous transfer payment scam. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGHH.

Oh well. Thought you rich pilot types might like to know how your money is getting spent. Want some back? Invest in big screen TV retailers and and whoever makes those sprewell hub caps, 'cause their sales are spiking right about now.

Hugs,

NaCl Mutt

WRONG!!!

You are seriously wrong if you think the only jobs going oversees are the ones people don't want.. I work at a large Oil company and they are laying off 5% of their people in IT every few months.. why 5%? b/c if they do it in small increments the government and press don't catch on. And these are technical jobs that a ton of people , not to unlike unemployed pilots are well qualified for and would love to have. It is all about corporate greed. What is going to happen to the US economy when all the salaries of these people are gone and unable to go back into the economy by their spending?

Here I sit typing on a Dell computer, equipped with an Intel processor, operating system by Microsoft, printer by Hewlett-Packard. I'm utilizing an Earthlink internet connection over a Qwest local phone line. My broadband and email back home, however, are through TimeWarner. I've Goggle'd a half dozen searches this evening, and installed Adobe Photoshop Elements. I've used Intuit to prepare my taxes this year and last. I've got an Amazon order in the mail. I just finished a ginger ale licensed by Coca-Cola. In my wallet I have both an American Express card and a KeyCorp debit card. I drive to the airport in a Ford. The last tank of gas I filled it with came from Albertson's. My cellphone is on the Verizon network. It's internal electronics are licensed from 3Com. All this is paid for by flying a Raytheon built and leased aircraft. Of course a few tail numbers are actually leased from GE Capital. These aircraft are all powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

One day I would like to fly for Continental, Delta, or Northwest. But I hear they fly Boeing aircraft, powered by General Electric engines, leased from such unholy entities as Tyco and they are all big, bad, evil corporations who only take my money and don't provide anything I need in my daily life. So I guess I'll just boycott my whole darned existence.
