twgordy...how do these other guys flying on the side justify the work and make sure they are within the bounds of all regs. Do you know if their contracts and ops specs have similar clauses?

Some 121 carriers allow outside flying.

TWA allowed outside flying for hire with the consent of the Chief Pilot and a letter in your personell flying. It was the responsiblity of the pilot to comply with all duty and flight hour FARs.

I flew the HS-125 for a local charter company until TWA converted to the AA operating rules and I had to give up the outside flying for hire.

For those that fly outside of their 121 carriers for hire without a policy in their FOPM and the knowledge of the CP, they are really hanging it out in the breeze. If you have any sort of incursion or deviation, and the company will find out about it, you'll be lucky to get a job greeting the fine shopper at Wallmart.

It is best to comply with the rules at your company. That being said, my former copilot on the Hawker is on salary for $50K a year and I'm on unemployment reading too much BS on this friggin website.

"for hire" ----any compensation 91/135/121/61/141 etc...

basically states you can't fly for money for any other company or person....
