Hi guys,

Been doing some research on ETOPS quals, but I'd like to hear it from y'all as well. What's involved in the certification process? I assume it's an individual thing, i.e. an ETOPS cert is good for a specific airframe and not the whole type. Is that correct? Is "ETOPS" always visibly displayed on the aircraft exterior (i.e. nosegear doors)-- and if so, is that because the display is required? Are there any 'unlikely' candidates that have received commercial ETOPS certification (i.e. besides B57/67/77/A330)? Are transoceanic bizjet operations (Part 91) governed by the same (or similar) regs?

I often think that www.airliners.net is a bunch of chimpanzees trying to type Shakespeare, but if you search in the technical/operations forums, you might be able to find some good information. This seems to be one of the few topics that actually has a semi-decent signal-to-noise ratio over there.

Here's something from a website written by a 777 captain:

Wikipedia also has some good info:
