youre comparing two different frequency types with two different planes. ANR and passive is not the same. you cant combine the 22 db reduction of anr with 24db reduction of passive for 46db total.....its two different halves that cant be combined.
-ANR works primarily with low note/low freq. noise such as prop noise. and helps w litle with high freq.
-passive works against mid to high freq. noise such as wind noise and other noise in relation to that wind. helps a good deal with prop noise.
-the ANR headset is made up of anr and passive to provide a full spectrum of cancellation...low and high....but in a Jet.....well...the ANR part protects litle against high frequency noises such as wind noise....and wind noise is all we have in the ERJ. it does help a little bit but its not a huge improvement. the ANR helps a little with some low freq. wind noise but its very very minimal if any exists.
im happy in the ERJ with my telex 100 passive set. its comfy, light, not a headclamp, and folds up compact leaving room for lunch in my flight kit.
to my knowlege theres no headset developed specifically for high frequency ANR cancellation. (PLEASE correct me if im wrong here.) so you cant find an ANR that works well in both types of plane.....but some captians i fly with like one of those telex's ....the half earcup ANR's. they say it works overall best for the jet. ill have to look into it.
