Alright my thread got deleted before I got a chance to look at all the responses. So anyway I am all ready to start classes in the ERAU online program except I need to find a proctor.
So who do you guys use as your proctor?

I did most of my Masters through the distant learning program. I used an ERAU extended campus location at a Naval base for my proctor. Check the website, they have quite a few of these locations in many cities. It's free and easy.

I used a librarian at a local public library once. Another time I walked across the street to the local junior high school and used one of the teachers there.

I use the local librarian too. It's worked well so far, but I may change as it's a small library and they have story time for little kids almost every day during the summer, making it tough to get a quiet spot.

The public school thing is a good idea, just remember that you may not be able to take your tests during school vacations.

I'm sure it's just how I'm reading it, but English's post seems to give the impression that you can just pick and choose from day to day. Make sure you understand that this is not the case. ERAU must approve your proctor individually and all of your testing materials will be mailed to that proctor. You can not just walk into a school and say "I need to take a test". As far as I know you can only have one proctor designated at a time.

Good Luck, so far ERAU is working out well for me.

Flywrite is right - each proctor does have to be specifically approved. It takes several weeks to get the approval. I'm not sure if one can use just one proctor at a time or not. I took tests in California, Virginia and Texas because I changed jobs and had to go through new hire training while finishing my degree. I planned ahead and arranged for proctors in advance so I wouldn't delay my coursework while in training. I actually had finals in three classes the same day as my Saab type rating...busy day!

I concur with the guys above. Any reference desk librarian with a degree in library science will qualify as a proctor. I used two different librarians at the same library so I didn't have to worry about one going on vacation or being off on the day I wanted to take a test. Best, they probably won't charge you for the service, unlike some AGI's and examiners.

When I was working on my Bachelors Degree I used my next door neighbors mother, she is a local school teacher. She would just sign the proctor form and drop it off at my house, I would send it back to ERAU when I was finished.

Since I started working on the MBA Program I have used another neighbor. He is one of my best friends. He is a FAA Designated Examiner, gave me my SF340 Type. Same thing, he signs the form and drops off the test and the form. I send back to school when I am finished with the test. No proctored tests, and no fees, this is the way to go. Also taking your exam on an overnight with you, gives you some good quiet time to read and take the exams as needed.

Nice to see integrity is alive and well in our industry.
People who do this sort thing are screwing over those of us who are actually working hard to get a degree. No wonder people have the impression that a Distance Learning Degree isnt a "real" degree.

I bet you really had to earn that type too, huh?

My best friends brother started to see a girl that's an elementary school teacher. They said she'd be no problem being my proctor. She has worked out great so far. Oh, and the fact that she is hot doesn't hurt anything either!:p

ditto

You can always use a proctor from any local college testing center.

If you are concerned about legitimacy, this is the best choice. I used the testing director of the local two-year college. I can also honestly say that I took my finals in a college classroom. It may not realistically mean much to be able to say so, but it means something to me.
