Have y'all heard the (somewhat disparaging) nickname that railroad personnel have for hard-core enthusiasts...the folks who hang out at the yards with a couple cameras and a notebook/diary?

They call them "foamers." (You know, as in "foam-at-the-mouth.")

We've got 'em in aviation, too...just look at airliners.net! How come our industry don't have an official nickname for such people?

(Is it because we've all been one at one time or another?)
 
When I was working part time at a radio station on the weekends, I worked for a railroad during the weekdays.

I never heard the term "foamer," we called them "buffs." As in "railroad buffs."
