First, I'd like to find out if this is true. FAR 91 operation operating a BE35 Bonanza -- The recommended engine overhaul time is purely that, a "recommended" overhaul time and is not mandatory in any fashion under Part 91 as long as the engine is in good working order and can pass the Annual inspections.

Second, looking through the engine logbook, I see "TSMOH" or "TMO" with engine times denoted next to them. Is the the total time of the engine in service?

Where would I find a the recommended overhaul time for the Bonanza's engine. It's a IO-520-BA

make sure your insurance still covers you if you chose to run beyond TBO.
 
"Recommended" when flying strictly Part 91 is just that. If it is something that the FAA believes should be required, they will issue an AD. Flying 135/121, etc. makes all those "recommendations" requirements. Interesting thought about the insurance company requirements, I never thought of that...
