engine failure video

That video reminds me of a phone call I received while driving home from work a few years ago. It was my uncle who was calling me to help get him and his ultralight out of an oak tree.

It was his 50th birthday so he decided to go flying. His engine quit immediately after takeoff at the worst possible time with no possible landing area, so he flew it into the woods and came to rest in the top of a tree. When he called me he was still in the tree and wasn't able to get out until one of his freinds brought a ladder. We were able to get the airplane out a few hours later with a chainsaw, a come-along, a lot of rope, and a few beers. We had to disassemble the plane to get it out of the woods.

The plane had very little damage and it proved to me that if you are going to crash it's much better to do it under control, rather than stalling in.

Yeah, especially when the video speeds up to actual rate right at the end... shows how fast these things really happen.
