A Life Evac helicopter from Virginia crashed last night around 11:00 pm into the Potomac River. The helicopter was returning to virginia when it crashed into the river near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge which is currently under construction. A witness reported the crash to a Maryland State Trooper who was stationed on the bridge. Rescue workers quickly located a survivor clinging to the wreckage. Another person was soon located in the wreckage deceased. A search continues for the remaining victim. The surviving victim reported that the helicopter may have hit something. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge spans the Potomac River and connects Virgina and Maryland. Due to the close proximity of Reagan National Airport and the Wilson Bridge, helicopter traffic crossing the approach path of Reagan National must fly extremely low over the river. The survivor believes the helicopter may have struck a construction crane which is part of the Wilson Bridge construction.
