Hello everyone,
I have recently been accepted to extended university
and was curious what the general concensous is regarding embry-riddles program. I have just completed an A.S. in aviation administration from Glendale Community College, along with my commercial certificate from a local FBO.
I have thought about attending Cal-State L.A.( I would need to take more classes at GCC before I could transfer, which translates to another year at GCC, but I am 43 and i'm not sure if extending my time at school is a good idea. If anyone has any experience with Embry's program, I would appreciate your input. Thanks

Good program but a bit expensive. Never had a problem with the server they use and it's easy to make time for what they give you to complete. Two test's you have to take at a testing center or at a ERAU extended campus. (I use OKC).

Good program, expensive but worth it, I think.

Thanks for the reply 328dude, the cost I was qouted is 164 per credit unit, although not cheap, is still alot less than 764 per unit to attend classes on campus. I did notice that the college catalog lists tution for extended campus to be between 164-764 per unit, but when I called the long beach campus they assured me that the price of 164 per unit was right amount and that the catalog had a misprint. Are they telling me the truth, or maybe only half the truth? Again thanks for sharing your experience on this subject with me.

I was told the same thing, and was only charged the 164. Everyone I talked to in my classes payed the same thing. I asked the same question when I got the catalog. THey sayed it was a goof. It's 164 per credit no matter what you take.
Make sure to send in all your ratings and the last few pages of your logbook to get the additional credits you will recieve.

Let me know what you decide. Hopefully see ya online someday.
You'll have fun.

Thanks for your help 328dude, I am planning on taking aviation law and It109 online this August. I am getting my multi through ATP in August and will apply for the credits at that point. I really appreciate your input, thanks.

I also attended community college first. I am currently in the distance-learning program through Embry-Riddle. I am enrolled in two classes right now, and I am going to finish the 1st one this week. So far it has been a good experience. The local library is my testing center. All classes are about $550 including the book. I am impressed with the system as I have yet to experience any problems. By the way, there is a prerequisite for aviation law called aviation legislation. Aviation legislation is a good 1st class to take, as it is a good intro into the whole distance-learning thing. Feel free to ask me any more questions.

P.S You will not receive any credits for just your certificates alone. You will however receive 33 credits hours once you logged 500 hours of instruction given or 1,000 hours of PIC.

Thanks for the reply PA-44Typed, I just enrolled in aviation legislation today along with EC111. I,m going to attempt to get my CFI soon and plan to acumulate enough PIC time for the credits. How did you come up with 33 credits? I't seems to be grey area when I ask the people at Long Beach Center.

The information that I have came strait from the Office of distance learning. I would call them!! The extended campus people don’t know anything. What I have form them concerning credit hours is as follows…
33 credit hours will be awarded to individuals providing logbook verifiable flight hours
500 hours of dual given
or
1,000 hours of Pilot in Command time

36 credit hours will be awarded for an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.

-The maximum credit award is 36 credit hours towards the Bachelors of Science in professional aeronautics.

Hope this helps

So, let me see if I understand this correctly. I can do the distance learning at ER for $164/credit.

I can apply 33 credits because I've got a bunch of ratings and almost a bunch of hours.

I think that works out to be about $15,000 for a AS degree.

Does this sound right?
