I was kind of wondering the same thing. A few more questions that maybe some EMB-145 XR pilots can answer:

How far will it fly?
How fast does it go?
What's the MGTOW?
Is ExpressJet the only airline that has them?

Maybe I can shed some light...

Q. How far will it fly?

A. The book says 2,000 nm with IFR reserves. In reality, when you add winds, multiple alternates, contingency fuel, etc., it has an effective range of 1,500 nm. I think the longest flight that ExpressJet operates with the EMB-145 XR is from Houston to Bakersfield which is around 1,400 nm and is blocked at just over 4 hours.

Q. How fast does it go?

A. Most of them will go Mach .80, while several that are awaiting a modification are limited to Mach .78.

Q. What is the MGTOW?

A. 53,131 lbs.

Q. Is ExpressJet the only airline that has them?

A. As far as I know. Who knows why?

The legacy is a 135 body, 145XR wings and A1E (XR) engines. It will only do M.80 like the XR. It has a greater range due to extra fuel where the XR puts pax's bags. the legacy holds nearly 18,000 pounds of fuel compared to the XR's 13,100.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I heard it climbs like a homesick angel.

modification to do .80?? whats the mod?? windshields? and since there are probably some COEX guys on here, whats the deal goin on with the stormscopes? did that ever happen and if so how did it work..

Not sure about windshields but I know it needed a mod to the tail. Somthing about the trim system maybe? Not sure about storm scopes but the company is looking at real-time ground based doppler radar being uplinked to the A/C. It will probably cost less than all the lightning strikes we have.

What is the MGLDW of the XR

I know the 145ER is always enroute burn + max landing limited.

You get 50 winter people (185lbs) and 1800lbs+ bags on a 1 hour flight and it starts to get close.

Wow, that is some difference for landing weight. 53131-44092=9039 worth of burn. That would suck for short flights.

In comparison, the CRJ is 53000 MTW with a MLW of 47000. A little more manageable...and it still sucks sometimes.

Just wait until all airlines are forced by the FAA to adjust the pax weights like Comair and DCI have had to. 195 for all pax and 30.5 for bags. Makes it even tougher.

I have heard talk of trying to increase the MLW of the RJ to offer some relief.

A Pilot's life is founded on three things: sex, seniority, and salary, in that order.

I hate to break it to you, but as you gain seniority, you have to give up more & more of your salary to get the sex:)

A really senior ACA guy

Just one minor point of clarification: the Legacy's 'extra' fuel is housed in 4 (instead of the XR's 1) ventral tanks, thus the really long belly fairing. The baggage compartment is the same in both variants.

ASA is 175 pounds winter and 170 pounds in the summer, and only 30 pounds per bag. Why the difference?

Every company had to do there own study. Each airline now has different passenger and bag weights. For are company it is 180 pounds for a pax, 30 for a regular bag, and 20 for a gate check.

So I guess the Northeast has a little more extra fat than the southeast.

4 hours!?!? That would definately suck.
