Hi all, Would anyone have the $ numbers for a complete elt install in a astra 1125 sp? thanx in advance..

I believe for turbojets, the requirement for 406 ELTs will be coming up soon.
this from Avionics West site:
The question is; if 406Mhz ELTs are so good, why aren’t aircraft owners purchasing them like hot cakes on a cold winter morning? Well, there are several reasons. Most avionics shops don’t push the products because they don’t fully understand the advantages of this ELT system nor do they have the proper equipment to test the product after installation. Another reason is the sad fact that safety is hard to sell. I can sell a farmer cow manure but trying to sell Safety to an aircraft owner is very difficult, they just don’t want to spend money on something that doesn’t flash numbers at them or doesn’t make the machine go any faster. No doubt cost is the biggest factor. A 121.5/243Mhz ELT sell for around $200.00 but a 406Mhz system sells in the $3,500-7,000 range, depending on the options. 406Mhz ELTs for boats sell in the $900.00 range but they don’t have a "G" switch that activates the ELT when the aircraft hits the ground nor are they "FAA Approved" I’m not going to thump you over the head and say go out and purchase one but give it some serious thought. A 406Mhz ELT could be money well spent.

You can expect the cost for a 406 installation to run about 12K to 14K. Just depends who does it.
We are installing a 121.5/243 elt now with a 406 compatible antenna. Cost 9K.

The only real advantage to a 406 is the response time in locating the aircraft, so for the extra 3k to 5k they'll find your body a little faster.

Anyone know how long it takes to get the ELT installed in the Astra if we order it today?

If it is the same unit as the Lear, take a number and stand by. Our primary radio shop has over 50 on back order.

Don't stop looking because your local shop doesn't have one.

We just started looking this past Thursday because a couple avionics shops here in fxe, where we are having some heavy maintenance done said it would be a 5 week wait to get a 121.5/243 elt and a 8 week wait for the 406.

We did some calling and located a 406 that day and it's here being installed.

In short call everybody you know and any shop you can think of and I bet you'll locate at least a 121.5 elt somewhere.
