[Bogview]

Any good Jeppview alternatives? If there is something descent out there, it might be time for a change. I'd like to put XM weather on the EFB too. Any advice?

Anywhere map and flight cheetah are both good options. We went with the Flight Cheetah 190 and are happy so far.

We have been using it for 9 months and love it.
XM-weather ,GPS moving map, NOS charts and great terrain graphics all on a motion tablet PC which is fully portable.

The ONLY program that can display Jeppesen plates is JeppView. Ther are several that will show Govn't/NOS charts. The XM weather option is WxWorx and for Sirius weather it's WSI.

Jepps are out. The charts are great, but the new Jeppview 3.2 is worthless. The old Jeppview 2.0 was so much better.

Looking at VistaNav, The website doesn't tell much about the software or prices. Can you buy just the software and updates and put it on your own tablet comp?

AnywhereMap looks real good. The portable setup is reasonable and revisions are only $145 per year for US. The bluetooth looks like the way to go. Are you using the portable antenna setup? I like the XM too. They give SAs, TAFs, and NEXRAD in the basic plan which is all we want.

Well,,,, The Jeppview portion is completely useless. Why would anyone want to mess with two separate computers to plan a single flight? Get-R-Done.


Unfortunately Jeppview is the only way to print charts. In Flightdeck 3.2, it is a long multi many step process to load multiple airports into the clipboard where they can be accessed. Sometimes airports being loaded on to the clipboard just dissapear. Flitedeck does not print. The drag feature on Jeppview 2.0 was eliminated so that zooming and moving around an approach plate is another long slow multistep process using directional arrows. Accidental screen contact causes rescaling that takes a long time to correct. The old Jeppview 2.0 was a simple and elegant program that worked. The only good feature is the buttons that let you go directly to the approaches, arrivals or 10-9.

This time it will be NOS charts and a Jepp Q for international.

Another HUGE complaint with the new version of JeppView is the time it takes to load. Jeppesen in all its infinite wisdom decided that the program should front load all the textual information when the program starts for quicker access..... But how often do you really read through text info??

True, It's slow. Out Fujitsus are a couple years old and short on ram/processor making it worse.

The online flight planning (Jetplan, Flightplan.com) does a much better job at filing something that you can get too.

Well considering all of the info is on a server and simply either burned on a cd or accessed by internet, it should be a lot less costlier than it is. Yeah I know it's cheaper than Q service, but then again there isn't half of a tree showing up in the mail box every two weeks.

I am wondering the same questions. We are starting to manage a KA200 and we just don't want to deal all US charts and the hassle of updating them.
It looks to me there isn't a single solution that will give us charts + planning + tablet pc capability all at once with ease of use and cost effectiveness.
we are planning to use jeppview and use duats to file.. I'd like to hear from someone that has more information and experience though..

For you guys using the efb's, what kind of transition is it? Specifically, say a company like ours with 22 pilots, all at various geek levels, what kind of program is required for the learning? Does it change recurrent/sim training at all?

I love my anywheremap setup! all the gadgets 2 systms for 10g's. I would get different tablets the next time around I have a LS800 and LS1600. The 800 runs hot w/bluetooth and The 1600 is a little big for our Beechjet . The cost of the PC's is the only detour so those price conscious pilots, find a descent tablet @ bestbuy. I also toggle back and forth W/ flightdeck when I leave the US. Works great but flightdeck sucks.

check out www.flightdeck.aero I've used their SkyTab 1300 and it it's a great unit! I have also heard they are releasing a unit the beginning of next year that has a 1.8 ghz processor and an LED lit screen!
