I am sometimes confused by what atc means regarding GND Stops, EDCT, Wheels Up Time.

1. Wheels up time is usually a hard time and you can be released +/- 5 minutes of that time

2. When a GND stop is issued, then you do not receive any time correct?

3. How valid is an EDCT time? If they say EDCT at 1800Z is that pretty much a hard time or can it be +/- 5 mins?

4. Sometimes ATC says that the update is at 1900Z, is this just an update time for a new EDCT?

1) Yes
2) You recieve an update time (see number 4) that the ground stop can either be lifted or extended. Usually a ground stop will "show" an EDCT of one minute past the update time...a "fake" wheels up, if you will
3) An EDCT is basically a wheels up time during a ground delay program, unless in the circumstances above.
4) If they say the update is at 19z, then at 19z the ground stop will either be lifted, extended, or usually, lifted and then EDCTs will be issued to help control the backlog of traffic that will now be inbound.

Hope this helps
