Seems pretty clear how to solve a lot of these problems involving loss of per diem, having to now pay for crew meals, worrying about not being able to tip those who help us out, among many other new issues we are dealing with.....

LET OWNERS TIP THE CREWS!!!

Everyone sees the owners handing out Twenties like they are dollar bills to the line guys...but they ignore us (maybe they do really think we all make 6 figures).

Want to see the company make all these changes and still have crews care about customer service???? This is the perfect solution, costs the company nothing, gives crews incentives to fly live legs (rather than continue to write up every little thing), and....most importantly...gets Mr. and Mrs. Owner from Point A to Point B.

The next letter sent out to owners should say "Crews greatly appreciate tips...in fact....they really are broke, hungry, tired and quite frankly sick of flying you rich ungrateful spoiled brats"
Maybe this would change the way we view our owners as well.

TIPS??!!!

Just work on getting yourself an industry humane wage and you wont be drooling over the $20's the owners are throwing the line guys.

tips.....F%&K tips...you are hard working, safe pilot. You dont need to live off tips.

If this is how you see your pax you are in the wrong line of work.

whoa this wasnt meant to be an anger post. What a great idea to try to negotaite a pay raise.....hmm...wish I wouldve thought of that one. But just in the unlikely event that doesnt happen soon, I was merely suggesting accepting tips. for those of you that have flown 135 in the past, you know how nice an extra 100-200$/day tax free is. For those of you who are against the whole tip idea (which I'm still quite baffled why anyone would think that bad. Anybody ever asked a line guy how much they make? more than alot of our FOs) I'm sure your First Officers would appreciate your tip...along with the Atlantic bucks, Avpoints, Steak bucks etc. (are you against those too?)

I think crews receiving 800$/week tax free would help morale and make things a little better. Isnt everyone here griping about all the latest ways we are losing money?? Maybe I have misread this whole board then.

As far as the passengers, maybe its just me who flies kids that dont say hi, goodbye, thank you and only trash the airplane. Didn't I read about The Whites on this board? Maybe I was wrong about that one too.

Since you all seem to be deeply opposed to this, sorry. Let's hope we get those big raises soon then....

I work as a line guy at an FBO that is a maintenance base for Flight Options and sees extensive Netjets traffic (mainly C-560s) and some Flexjet Lears. We are lucky to ever get a tip from any frax owners. Standard procedure is to roll out the red carpet, assist with baggage, pull up rental car, load baggage into car, throw away garbage, etc. Let me just say that I dont know how it is at larger airports/FBOs, but at my class D-4000' runway airport, tips are a precious commodity as far as line guys go.

Jax, I think you're correct, I worked as a line guy at a smallish type airport and tips were far and few between. When I did get tips it was most often from base customers. This appears to still be the case, even at bigger airports. A lot of owners are greeted by name by the linemen with their car running planeside. These are the guys that get tips. At a small airport you're more likely to get tips from the pilots (until we stop being reimbursed) for things like quick turns and lav dumps.

As for the original post, I don't think we should HAVE to rely on tips but it sure would make things nice some times. But 99% of the owners would balk at it now since it's been beaten into them to keep their wallet in their pocket when dealing with us lowly flight crews. And PizzaGuy, I'll take all the Atlantic bucks and AvTrip points you can throw at me!

Hey, I didn't bring it up! But---

FPG, I could have warned you to wear a flak jacket when discussing tips--been there done that--:( I'm not sure why some see it as demeaning, but I do know that many pilots DO appreciate tips. In an effort to settle the question of right or wrong, I did an internet research on the subject of tipping pilots and even pasted the answer into a post. Basically, according to etiquette experts, pilots are NOT tipped UNLESS they have performed a service above and beyond flying the airplane. For those of you in the smaller planes, doing additional duties, the rules of society mandate that your px show their appreciation with a tip just like they do to many others who have served them in one way or another. I think it is a huge foul that management has discouraged the practice. My family has appreciated every tip my husband has received. As I said before, it is NOT just the money that matters, but the recognition of a job well done.

Certainly, the salary should be such that tips are not NEEDED. They should be strictly between the px, who VOLUNTARILY choose to show their appreciation in that manner, and the hard-working pilots that have earned extra recognition.

thats great...how bout next year?
Id rather have a SALARY that paid enough for a motorcycle....or a house....or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.....

tips are for waiters and college kids serving ice cream, not for pilots.

SALARY - its there every year.

big picture brother, big picture.

Hey futurepizzaguy. I think you have a great idea. Don't let G200 scare you off the board. He's really just a big fluffy teddy bear. Completely harmless. In fact, I would like to request (G200) that you send me any tips you receive since you are too high and mighty to accept a mere handout. But I am sure a man in your position is not ever offered a tip. If you ever do receive one please send it my way. I will spend it for you.

ok...point taken, but i think you are confusing those that count tips and per diem as part of their take home pay.

...im not doing either ;)

a tip to me is not to be defined, expected, nor counted upon. its just that, a tip. i believe the definition is something like this...

gratuity to in return for a service, beyond the agreed-on compensation

...and i had no plans of buying a motorcycle either, or i would have just taken it out of my salary

here's a tip for ya:

pull your heads out of your a$$es and get a real job where you dont have to live off unpredictable handouts folks!

;) .

Relax G200.....why are you so angry?

Not sure where you are getting your information but ....we do not have a job where we have to live off "unpredictable handouts" being that we do not get tips.

I don't think you are getting the point....
