Try pprune. The G550 has the same avionics (duh!, sorry) so you might look up some of those guys. A guy named BitterFlex is on the 550.

I've just overflown so I don't have any info on the QFE. It should be easy to change to meters for altitude at cruise though. Good luck.TC

We fly into UHHH quiet often. Russian airports report QFE, however, you can request QHN and they will give it to you. Keep a feet vs. meters chart handy to convert flight levels. Be prepared to give position reports even when in radar contact. Be prepared to do full approaches even in a radar contact enviroment. Good luck.

Thx for the help. But, I'm looking for someone who's flown a Falcon EASy in a QFE environment. Are there any issues particular to EASy?

Why worry about Easy and QFE?

when you enter Ruskie airspace, hit the meter button, fly meters and set QFE hpa below the advertised TL -- DONE.

Its good to cross ref meters to feet with a chart (front of Jepps) but really you dont NEED it, you will be looking at meters in your ASEL.

I wouldnt ask for QNH, just go with what they do. Understand the plates too. I believe QFE altitudes are in the brackets - ex: (600)

I second the above about full approaches, especially at night. Lots of figure 8 type transitions to line you up on the ILS. They like to switch them at the last minute too, I think just to fark with you. Plus the night controllers are much worse at English than the day guys.

FBOs are pretty modern and sevice is much better now....but still can be slow. I always allow 3hrs before departure to get things together. Traffic is horrible and unpredictable, give yourself time.

If you need hotel/rest/hooker rec's, just ask, some folks here go to Russia often.

Speaking of which, has that "little problem" of yours cleared itself up with the high dose of anti-biotics????:D

I know you meant "BIG problem"

no way bro, that was bad chicken...or the flu...

read your signature line!

No sweat, guys, next time I'm in BKK, I'll hit that little pharmacy next to the JW and get you whatever kind of antibiotics you need.

I mean, if it's good enough for the "girls" at the Nana Entertainment Plaza, it's good enough for us. Right? TC

I would suggest using Qfe and not Qnh. Their traffic advisories are in Qfe. You don't want to be looking at a conversion chart when you should be looking for traffic.

We have operated an EASy into China with no problems. just select metres.

In fact we are going back to china next week. I haven't been to Russia in one so I can't help you there but China was OK.

m3--here you go:

Two situations, en route. and terminal.

Does FMS have a conversion section, if so use to obtain airport QNH for departure PX setting, and to verify, and set destination QNH, for perf init, and PX landing settings.

En route: check en route charts, to compare level. make a chart on EXCEL, to show levels. (Jepps have the conversion right on the appropriate chart)

Russia and China slightly different. set display options to show metric alt.

Approach: top of descent set FMS up for normal QNH arrival, box and numbers if required. Then set PX ctl to semi, and dial in QNH value of airport. Now for the science. YOU MUST set all heights after transition to QFE numbers, from Jepp plates. Both crew MUST X check heights.
Do you want r/w threashold at 0 or 50ft, your call.???????

Miss approach: is a very small climb so consider no config chage, except perhaps 1 stage flap, and just apply power.

Make paper full size plates for all airports expected, and a copy each crew.

Departure: set up departure using QNH, box numbers, manually, then reset QFE, on all alt, 9if desired all), then set px to semi mode, not auto. remember to reset in climb out.

Most corporate crews try and stay in Marriotts, but the Moscow Marriott Renaissance is very good for crew, get exec floor and free everything....

Landed in UHHH last night. The only thing we did was set 0 in the airport elevation for the pressurization system. Normally this defaults to the airport elevation. We've flown through Russia and countries in meters before and QFE. Just never had to touch down with the 2000 in them.

Watch yourself in russia, QNH QFE even when requested sometimes gets reported to you wrong.

I do not know if you have ever been there or not, if you have ingore past this, if not...

Almost everytime in there I have run across some gotchas, mostly due to controller/ground equipment quality. Not much english comprehension happening by the guys on the ground, add to that a large amount of what in most of the world would be called screwball approaches and you have the makings of a bad day if everybody is not on their toes. Never never never trust what the controller tells you, always back it up, not that you shouldn't do that every where....but MAKE sure you do there!

Buddy had a case a while back where the controller screwed up and had them (a 747) headed straight for a mountain. Watch yourself.
