So we are taxiing in to the ramp this morning in EUG with tower, twin Cessna on short final when we hear the tower say "Cessna xxxxx, check gear down", Pilot says "oh, that's probably a good idea"..........

This is true, although the nose gear goes all the way up so your screwed there.

Kinda the same subject. A while back I was in the pattern with a student, at KCAK and heard the following:

Tower: Cap Flight XXX, go around
Tower: (a moment later) It appears you have a tow bar on your nose wheel.

He eventually landed w/o incident and most likely learned a thing or two about pre-flight procedures!

I would have figured the tow bar would make a lot of noise during taxi and take-off (dragging on the concrete, bouncing and hitting the fuselage or the prop)
