Hey folks,
Does anybody know what the current upgrade time at AE right now? Has it came down any in the past few months.

the upgrades right now were hired in 99 or so for the atr, in the class right now.. the saab may be a little more junior.. eagle had a hiring freeze post 9/11 so after those guys upgrade, it should drop to around 3-4 years. there is talk the emj could have uprades at 2005 new hires next year..

Hey folks,

are you f-ing serious with that question? geeeeesh!

You must have six more years to go before you will upgrade!!!!!!;)

Don't Worry Be Happy!
I think that what he means is that this question is stupid.

Right now JR. CA hired 11/99 but we are about to have a TON of CA attrition (flowbacks and probably some flowthrus), and with aforementioned long hiring freeze post 9/11, upgrades should be down to around 4-5 years at most, hopefully at this time next near. Probably more like next summer (I was a 7/2004 hire, so that'll be my 4 year mark!).

Yes and no. The letter of agreement is still in effect for another 13 months. There are 408 +/- guys at AE who have seniority numbers at AA. Recalls will probably take another 2 years. A lot of the guys with numbers don't want to go. Many do, though (the younger ones -- under 45 years of age give or take). APA feels none of them should be able to flow after the end of the flowthrough agreement. AMR wants all of them to flow. What's going to happen? We'll all find out over the next 2 years, I guess. What does the future hold for AE pilots having career opportunities at AA? Probably a preferential hiring type thing ala CAL. AMR really wants to bring longevity down at AE, and they know that there are a lot of guys at AE who hope to work at AA one day.

Pretty much.........400 flowbacks, 400 flowthrus, many of whom easily could have gotten a job at SWA/FDX/CAL in the last couple of years stayed to see what the flowthru would bring (they'd be senior to thousands of pilots at AA, not have probation, carry their sick/vacation, etc.), and just mangement's reluctance to upgrade for fear of having too many captains (yeah right). The flowback/flowthru did have a lot to do with the long upgrade, yes. Managemtent is actually being proactive for once about reducing the upgrade time, though, because they know that's the #1 reason people don't want to work here, and with possibly 1000 CAs leaving in the next 1-2 years, they're going to need to do some serious hiring to keep this place running.

Well, hopefully. We'll see. I'm coming up on 3 years, and thought long and hard about a lateral move in the winter until things finally started to pick up in recent months. I live in NY, but I just wanna get my PIC time and move on, and I'll commute to do it. There are a lot of variables that determine how long a newhire today will have to wait until a shot at the left seat.

1. Flowbacks will all be back at AA at this time next year, maybe next summer.
2. 2 years from now we may have several hundred CAs flow to AA, or get hired by SWA/FDX/CAL/DAL/UAL/LCC, etc.
3. Strong possibility of 10 more SF340s coming on line, and maybe, just maybe (longshot though) 25 more CRJs (boy, what that would do to our upgrade time!).
4. The new Captain Qualified FO program (believed to make Turboprop CA go more junior).
5. Future prefential hiring at AA/other ALPA legacy carriers. AE is working with an outside financial analyst to figure out ways to trim costs, and the first thing they said was you're way too senior for a regional. The result was a program called the longevity initiative that aims to reduce longevity at AE by getting Eagle guys who want to leave a job with a mainline carrier (program still in it's infancy, of course).

Of course a sale of Eagle, or outsourcing to other carriers could put a radicle twist on things, but after considering all the variables, this 3 year Eagler decided to stay because I'm anticipating big things by next summer (hopefully a shot at ATR CA in SJU!). We'll all just have to wait and see, I guess.

Attention all future eagle pilots. Next month AMR will announce the sale of eagle. Uncertain of how this will affect hiring, upgrades, etc. But not likely a good thing.

Did you get this info on the employee bus? I bet you were sitting next to Peter Bowler!

Could be the best thing to happen to us in a long time. Equal chances of a great thing as a bad thing.

I keep hearing this from guys, and I just don't understand what could be so great about it... Yes, you could bid for other flying and grow, but at the same time, how could you possibly compete with other regionals that are not nearly as senior/expensive... Not to mention, with the current management team, i'd be very weary of such a move....

You are exactly right, but I have a feeling that if we were sold a lot of the senior guys would leave.

Like I said, could. It may be the worst thing also. It really doesn't do any good to try and speculate at this point. If if sells then we will just deal with the cards we are dealt.
