I wouldn't trade my year of flying freight for another year of seniority ever.
I never understood the magical year of flying freight, my 8 months of freight flying were some of the most misserable days of my entire life. If the regionals were hiring I would have skipped it in a second.

Get your number now if you meet mins.

Actually my plan originally was to goto Ram Air Frieght (or similiar) after I graduate from college this spring and build multi-time that way. That was before all the regionals dropped their mins and the little pukes I've flown with(and wouldnt even wish upon my enemies a flight with) are getting into RJ's. Then I get phone calls "Why are you still instructing?" "Because I'm getting a 4 year degree" "So am I, do it online while working at a regional" GRRRRRRRRR

So yeah I'm getting anxious, I'll probably suck it up and buy a 100h block of multi time. The alternative is a fright gig, and most have 1 year training contracts now (and I'll never get to see my Girl with a mon-fri job), or getting a new CFI gig at a school with a twin and being "that guy..." who is new but only cares about the twin time...Pissing off all the other instructors

Get your time anyway you can. Flight Instructing and 135 flying does teach you some things and gives you more confidence in your flying ability. On the other hand, if we are to speak of career progression I think everyone should serve four years in the military. That will make everyone appreciate what they have and not complain so much about woking a twelve hour day of mone and groan about a 5 legs or what ever. Just my opinion.

Jesus, are you boys spoon fed?. If you really want to skip a step in the progression and are able to, great. But don't think you are above it. 135 can prove that you deserve the hair on your balls, a truly priceless way to put ink in your logbook.
Get a grip ladies.

Thats just it. Do whatever it takes to get you into the position that you want to be in. It is not up to us what the mins are so take advantage of the lower mins.

You said you are am MEI. Hang out at the airport and meet people who have a twin and give BFRs, safety pilot, whatever. Work the radios, give a couple pointers, ride along.

I agree 100%. Having diverse flying time in your logbook is never a bad thing. Ever hear the joke "If the after takeoff checklist at a 121 airline said to roll inverted and pull back on the yoke they would do it". 135 time makes you think on your feet and sharpens your skills. Like flying into MMIO at night flying the ARC to an approach down to minimums. 135 is a different animal, not trying to knock 121. 121 flying has its place, and will also give you new skills, but diversity in your experience is never bad.

There is definitely something to be said for the 135 flying, but if you want some relatively exciting 121 flying then check out flying the ATR for AE in the caribbean. Lots of crazy cloudbreak-NDB maneuvers/approaches, flying through volcanoes and mountains, controllers who dont speak english, island hopping. Check youtube: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=jwes for some videos

Yeah, had the privilege of flying ERJ's into St. Maarten a couple of times, and that was probably the coolest experiences I had with Eagle. I would do that Caribbean ATR flying in a heartbeat, especially if I were a single guy in my early 20's looking for a little fun.
