I live in STL, it'd be nice to stay close, and the rock is kinda far away. I'm young enough that it's pretty much a done deal I'm off for SJU at Eagle. Which is the better place to be and why? Thanx in advance

Never say never. But at 23 I was 4th from last in my class and got LAX saab. Everyone I talked to that went there (to SJU)loved it. They said it was a year paid vacation. You make it what you want. Ive flown with several guys that live in STL and they say the commute is easy, to all bases.

I'd rather get a tan than frostbite!

But seriously, you should look at this long term. AE is someplace that you could be comfortable at for a real long time. With time you'll have the choice of equipment and bases. The contract is bound to be renegotiated and you have pass benies on AA. You'll probably sit right seat for 5+ years, but at least it's with large, solid company.

SYX is not something that gets even close to being livable. One base, two aircraft, and brand new contract that is still not close to where we need to be with compensation. AND we could be gone with the wind if the economy sneezes.

Do yourself a favor and get in with Eagle. Do your time, bid ORD and eventually you'll be closer to home. Don't get me wrong SYX has the best pilot group in the industry, but that doesn't keep food on the table. We have senior Captains leaving for Comair/CHQ/etc., take that for what its worth. Good luck.

Couldn't convince states to look at me. Times are too low at 1200 and 170. Thanx very much for the constructive input guys. I think I'll still interview with SYX. (got hired at Eagle last week)

I would try syx. they are not as bad as lansan says. I do not know if the quality of an airline is measured on how many aircraft types they have or the number of domiciles. there might be a big announcement in some time that might make syx more "attractive". to upgrade at skyway has take some time now after 9/11, it still is much shorter that eagles. speaking of salary, it may not be the best once you are a jet cpt it is livable .

I'm not trying to bad mouth SYX. I'm just saying that the longevity of this company is questionable. Take a look at Midwest Air Groups financials, I haven't studied them much but they don't look very good from a glance.

I had no choice when I came here. Eagle sent me the bad letter. "Do not meet mins." Skyway was good enough to give me a chance to work for an airline and I'm still glad to work here, of course some things could be better. My point is that people leave here because their futures are uncertain and the quick upgrade no longer exists. If your going to sit right seat forever it might as well be a large company like Eagle or CoEx.

Eagle or SYX...

Do you wanna upgrade sooner or later?

Do wanna be at a place where everyone knows everyone?

Do you wanna be a number at a big company?

Do wanna be at a place where you could easily retire from?

Do wanna be at a place where it is financially unstable? Never mind that is every airline;)

Do you wanna be at a place that has one domicile or many?

Do you wanna work at a place that has a lot of potential growth?

I would select SYX if I was looking for quick PIC then on to something else.
I would select Eagle if I wanted more $$$ and had no intentions of moving on to other carriers.

Good luck,
-TC

Hasn't that "big announcement" been due for about two years now?

I don't work there any more and I'm still waiting...

I think the guy right above me (Thunderchief) said it best, though.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
