The big problem in journalism, relating to the question at hand about the photo, is that when a journalist thinks that some element of the story, the photo in this case, is unimportant to them, it is therefore unimportant to the story, or the public.
Sometimes the person inserting a photo into a story has zero knowlege about the kind of airplane that should be shown, and sees a picture of ANY airplane as bettter than no airplane at all.
It's a basic assumption about the knowlege of the general public.
That's how so much of liberal journalism feels comfortable telling so many whoppers. They think that they and their supporters are the intellectual elite, and that the more "average" person will be easily fooled.
In recent years, they have found that they have grossly miscalculated.
