I always go to sun n fun, which is in my backyard pretty much. I understand you gotta make a 1 year reservation at oshkosh, since hotels dry up months before the event.

Having been to sun n fun several times, is it worth the trouble to make the trek up to oshkosh????

Not true, you can usually always get a room at the college. I am staying there again this year and it's still only 40 bucks a night.

You haven't been to Oshkosh until you camped under an airplanes wing. Then you start staying in a hotel because you remember how horrible that was.
