Does anyone have or know where I can pick up a copy of

"Island in the Sky" ?

I have:

Fate is the Hunter
Band Of Brothers
The Black Watch
Hostage to Fortune
Blaze of Noon
In the Company of Eagles
The Aviator
The High and The Mighty
Flying Circus
Twilight for the Gods
Gentleman of Adventure

what is "Fiddlers Green" about?
what is "Of Good and Evil" about?
wht is "Masada" about?

Anyone know of others I'm missing?

Thanks

Thanks Bobby, for some reason when I searched there before it didn't come up. Outside of used book shops amazon is where I found most of my collection. I also picked up a copy of Crossfield's "Always another Dawn" and Tony Levier's "Pilot".

No problem. I've purchased a ton of books from amazon.com.

Read Hostage to Fortune

Read Hostage to fortune it will answer all the questions about what the books you listed are about.

I read "The Antagonists" which apparently is the old name for "Masada." It is historical fiction about the Jews who went up on that mesa/mountain fortress and held off a Roman army for a year or two then all committed suicide rather than be captured by the Romans. The Roman general, a Jewish girl who is his mistress, and a few guys up on the mountain are the main characters he follows. Pretty good but you have to like historical fiction, i.e. author making up a bunch of junk loosely based on real events. Ernest can write though, be it aviation or historical fiction.

Another one

Just re-read "In THe Company of Eagles"...great book. In the lucky-break category, I have a friend whose wife bought him a copy of "Fate Is The Hunter" at a yard sale. When he looked at the book, under the outer cover was an autograph and short message from Ernie to the original owner of the book...

If you want to read a little-known, yet outstanding aviation book, I recommend "D@mn Serious Business" by Ching Willows. It covers about 20 years (or more, I forget) of aviation, from military to airlines and everything in between. Hilarious, and you can learn a lot about aviation history as well.

Good reading...

You seem to be missing "Song of the Sirens" by EKG about hi other love, the sea and boats. Available from sailing supply stores book sections Pub by Sheridan House, I think. Sort of a "Fate is the Hunter" for boats.

I'll bet none of you have The Trouble with Lazy Ethel. (No kidding! Ernest Gann. Copyright 1958.)

Anyone ever read "Squawk 7700"? I read a brief review and wasn't able to order from Borders.

It's been awhile, but if it's the same book I remember - it was OK. A young guy struggles to get to a regional, while feeling pretty sorry for himself, realizes the goal and then discovers after a short period of time that he hates it. "How to scuttle your airline career 101." Interesting contrast to, say, Buck's North Star Over my Shoulder. The book was self published, and promoted heavily by the author on the old Flightinfo Forums Mk. I

O yeah, was that the guy that would get crap from everyone on the old board for trying to sell his book? O the old board, its been so long now. Remember the days ? Just about every post was like:

I'm hired.....
I'm in the UAL pool...
More planes for my company....
I have an offer from DAL and AMR what should I do.....
I'm leaving America West for UAL.....
I'm leaving SWA for UAL....
Why would you ever want to work for Southwest/Jblu/Airtran.....
I'm only gonna apply to AMR, DAL or UAL....

Then there were the WO guys, "Everybody keeps taking the WO flying", guess some things never change.

The book was published by a vanity press, meaning that he engaged a company to publish his book. Meaning, further, that a legitimate publishing house, such as Random House, etc., wasn't interested. For that reason, I, for one, wouldn't give the book much credence. Anyone can pay to have a book published. Just as anyone can engage in certain activities, if you know what I mean, and I'm sure that you do, to become an airline pilot.

In the interest of fairness, here's a link to the Squawk 7700 website.
