Building dual given or take a job flying S/E 135 VFR short hops?

All things being equal, what is the best move career wise for a CFI who wants to end up at the regionals?

Appreciate any advice, positive, negative or otherwise from people who have already made the jump

Why can't you do both? 135 time is closest to the type of flying done by the commuters. It helps greatly if you can offer experience that closely matches what they want. You can still instruct.

Having said all that, I second Deftone. I usually come out very strongly in favor of instructing for new pilots, primarily because it is a valuable learning experience in more ways than one. However, rare is the 135 job for a lowtimer and perhaps you should jump on it. But, not to the complete exclusion of instructing.

Bear in mind, though, that multi PIC along with total time is what you really need. Seek out those opportunties as well.

If the 135 job has the potential for advancement down the road I would definetely take the vfr 135 job. There aren't many jobs out there right now. Get what you can now before there are more pilots on the street. Another thing to consider is how restrictive single engine 135 flying is. The fbo i work at has a Lance on its certificate and it has not flown in 5 or 6 months, mainly due to weather. Hope the jobs in sunny california.
