Has anyone been asked during an interview if they have tried, used, experimented, etc. with any illegal substances.

If you have tried drugs in college but were never caught, what should your answer be in an interview?

Is this a time that honesty may not be the best policy?

I can't believe you are even asking this question.

Yes, be honest AND specific. Cite situations, other people present (SSNs if available), the substance used and the outcome. I would try to put it all in writing beforehand if at all possible and just hand the document to the interviewer when asked.

hehe

I agree with the above. It is much more professional to be 100% honest when interviewing and a question like this comes up. If I were you I would state as much of the specifics as you recall them to be, what kind of high was it?, good "trip" versus bad "trip?, ability to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence, etc, etc. Some on the interview board just may be able to relate to you and it will a more "relaxed" mood for the setting. I would assume that this issue would take a lot of the stress and intensity out of the interview when discussing a topic like drug useage and the different highs that you were able to get and maintain.

Negative, I would say give it a shot and report back to us after you get the job. Remember, honesty is looked at with great respect.

good luck

I've only smoked crack cocaine...but it was GOOD crack!

Honesty is the best way!

My favorite question to ask while I am being interviewed, "So, is your drug and alchol policy a strict rule or more of a guideline?"

True Story:

When I was in Indoc, the HR person said, "Alright guys, we are now at the "Drug and Alcohol Training" part of the curriculum. Let's talk talk about marijuana. What are some of the ways a person might use mairjuana to get high?".

The oldest guy in the class, who was in his late 50's, raised his hand. She called on him. He smoothed his receding hairline a few times, stroked his mustache thoughtfully, and said. "Well, at my age, probably as a suppository".

I don't think I have ever laughed that hard, before, or since.

Always self-disclose on everything. That way the interviewer has a good idea about who is going to screw up and blab to the media or the feds after an incident, instead of shutting the hell up and excercising good damage control measures.

LMAO at the responses!

:D
