Hey guys, I have a couple of questions.
In the last six years, I have had three different driving licenses for three different states. Over this period of time I got a few more tickets that I'd like to have in my record (8). Not all of them are for speeding though.
Right now I'm in the process of applying to the regionals, so I requested driving records from the three states.
The weird thing is that all the tickets were given to me in a state that was not the one I had a license for, so there is only one ticket in my records.
First question, is there a place where i can get all my records? or where do the airlines get the records when they do the background check.
Also, i did driving school two times and had two tickets dismissed in court, would that show on the background check?
And the last question. What should I say about how many tickets I have in the applications, I know that honesty is the way to go, but i something is not going to show anywhere I don't wanna be talking about it.

Please let me know what you guys think or know, thanks in advance.

For a quickie check, your insurance company can give you a copy of your seven-year driving record. But for the full boat you must contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state and apply for the complete record.

Driver's Abstract

I recently got my full driver's record from the DOL. In my state the DMV only shows the last 3 years, so in order to get a copy of my full record I sent a form to the DOL to get my Driver's Abstract. It was way cheaper than the basic 3 yr DMV record....only $5 if I recall correctly! I'm not sure if all states provide this...but you can easily find out by doing an internet search.

If you make a good faith effort in doing a record check, what else you admit to is up to you. The more recient the ticket, the higher probibility that it will come up in a check, so be more honest with those, and perhaps more forgetful of the older.

If a ticket is dismissed in court, it is not on record. If it is dismissed, you have been found not-guilty of "attempted vehicular manslaughter", whatever the freak that means!

Listen, I've got a folder in my desk at home with 35 tickets for this-or-that--mostly abstract tickets, like lights out, unsafe start, unsafe speed, wreckless endangerment, disregarding an automatic signal, yada-yada-yada--and not one of them come up in my DL search. It's a pretty neat trick, and I do know why... but I'll never volunteer that information in an interview. I simply provide a copy of my clean driving record from the National Database and the local DMV, and that's it. If it's clean, it's clean, regardless of what YOU have in YOUR file. Live with it.

Be sure you are honest

I can't confirm this but someone I know that was hired at a regional was called into the chief pilots office during ground and came very close to being fired for a minor in possesion on his record. The charges were dropped and he explained to other students that some states have records of you being pulled over even if you diddn't recieve a ticket. Records go back to 1972 in some cases. The DOT can get access to these records even when you BY LAW can't. If you dont know then write that you just cant rember the exact details of the incidents and your honesty will probally be admired. You can't get access to the records that the DOT can. You could sell what you haven't had in the past like NO DUI or Speeding in a school zone or a ticket that was so sever that you were arrested for it.

Just my 2 cents worth

Doesn't this violate FOIA? Aren't we supposedly entitled to see any and all records that government has on us?

If you get a ticket, and you go to traffic school, they take the points of, but your ticket remains. At least that was in my case.

Thanks a lot guys, can any of you tell me exactly where to get the national database? because all the tickets i got where in a different state than the lisence. Also, I got a ticket in Virginia about 5 years ago, and my "driving Privileges" where suspended in Virginia because i didnt pay an extra fine i was issuerd and never told about, which i found out 6 months later when trying to get a TX driving lisence. needless to say i paid the fine. so when filling out applications i dont know what to answer for the question if my lisence has ever been suspended.

thanks guys
