NEW YORK :Doug Parker of U.S. Airways said Thursday the industry is facing a downturn as it grapples with record-high oil prices and a weaker economy. "Our industry is a mess, if you haven't noticed," said Chief Executive Doug Parker, speaking at the airline's headquarters near Phoenix. "We're about to head into what looks like another downturn." In the last six months, the Amex Airline Index has fallen about 38%, partly on concerns that a U.S. recession and housing crunch could decrease travel spending. Shares of U.S. Airways fell 5% at last check to $13.08.

Hey Old School Your Link Is Not Working!!! Can You Repost...thx

"US Airways boasts that its merger has been a success. Still, it has yet to fully integrate the unionized labor groups from the two airlines, and unions demonstrated outside the airline's headquarters on Thursday, alongside a 30-foot rat meant to symbolize US Airways' management.

"Doug Parker has failed to complete this merger," said pilot Tania Bziukiewicz, spokeswoman for the Air Line Pilots Association, America West chapter. "It's still chaos.""

Maybe Doug just hasn't got a clue?

You can all make your jokes about Doug, but he is one smart cookie. Both East/West pilot's should also thank their lucky star's, as without the merger.....IMO...US would be history....and AmericaWest would be where F9 is today (which is on the edge), or in BK.

The BS by dubya that the economy is not headed for recession or in one, is political posturing. The stimulus pkg is also nothing more than a prayer to keep the numbers skewed until the election is over. It may or may not temporarily work, but we won't know until summer.

NWA pilot's are still negotiating (nothing wrong with that) for the best deal, but at some point in the next few weeks they will have to fish or cut bait. The window of opportunity will close quickly to put this deal together for approval in time for this administration's blessing. Can it get done with a new administration? Absolutely, and probably will if things can't be worked out soon. You can bet the beaurocratic process will seem infinite in comparison. The downside to waiting will be the financial and strategic headstart opportunity that will be missed by not putting the deal together now.

:pimp:

Which makes the fact that guys like him industry-wide are running roughshod over us even more appalling.

Did'nt we just have a downturn? I think he needs to check his calender, we're not due for another 7.5 years.
