Call me crazy, but I came up with an idea to help pay for my flying lessons. As I write this I'm sitting in the lounge waiting for my next blood draw. Yes, I checked into a study that will last 4 days in which I will be poked some 15-20 times, urine extractions(multi), ECG, limited eating times (10min) and other testing that will all be done at random times.

Day 1: I showed up at 5 a.m. for the begining of a string of test which has had me in and out of my cot till lunch. I was wondering if, after all these blood draws, would I have any left at the end of four days.
Question How long after they extract say a 1/2 pint would it take the body to replenish it?
I did have some great news on my vitals, the bpm for my heart was at 45...they say avg person runs about 70-80.

Your probley wondering what their testing. This study has to do with a pain med. So, I hope I don't get the placebo.
Oh, and I'm currently a back up so there is a slim chance of advancing through to the other 3 days.

Has anyone done this before? I'll keep an up date of my journey and back!

Ouch

I hope they are paying you some big bucks! Really....wouldn't it be a whole lot easier (and painless) to just pick up a p/t job at Starbucks in the evening? Good luck with the flight training, and the blood draw. Personally, I can't think of any job worth drawing mass amounts of blood for.

Make sure that you report any study related visits to a doctor on your next FAA medical. The feds will want name, address, and reason for the visit. If you happen to get and take a pain medication, I hope that it isn't on the FAA prohibited medication list. Of course, you won't be flying while you are taking this medication or until you are cleared by an AME, right?? Depending on what the medication is, you could be grounded for awhile. So, exactly how might this help advance your flying career??

As a pilot, you need to be very careful when dealing with the medical profession and medications.

Currently I'm not flying as I've run out of money. This is a four day study that if I proceed to the next round tomorrow,I will receive 375mg of a pain med. From that point on I'll be checked for levels. When reporting this to my Med Doc do I have to provide the results?
Does the FAA frown on pilots doing these studies?
So, if lets say one month passes, do I have to visit AME before I go back up?
I think that this one time deal shouldn't hurt my future in aviation as long as refrain from flying under the influence.
If this study needs to be reported then I will definately abide by the rules.
Any more info on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks for your reply.
