Anyone know of a site that lists the operating costs of a 727 vs an A-320?

Don't need those exact aircraft, just looking for a site that can prove it costs less to operate a newer generation aircraft.

(Obviously I know this, but I need a source)

Thanks for the help!

It would be hard to put together any comparison that would be meaningful from a statistical standpoint. There are so many variables in an airline's operating budget, the same type's operating cost probably varies wildly between airlines.

How was it financed?
Labor costs? Two pilots vs. three pilots.
In house MX or contract?
Parts vendor contract or in-house MRO?
Fuel price? Hedged contract or open market?

You could compare specific fuel consumtion for a raw idea of operating cost. That would give you an idea.

EagleRJ,

Yeah you're right. I guess I'm looking at it from a fuel cost.

Thanks for the reply!

I don't have any info on 727 or A319 but here's one example. Southwest's CASM (cost per available seat mile) is approximately 7.6 cents. Take a transcontinental flight, LAX to BWI. It is about 4.9 hours block time and is 2326 miles. The 737-700 has around 141 seats. So $0.076 x 141 seats x 2326 miles = $24,925. The flight takes around 4.9 hours so $24,925/4.9 hrs= $5087 per hour. That's a rough estimate and costs vary by route but it's just an example. Maybe you can do the same by finding the CASM for different airlines that operate the A319 or 727.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you.

Edit: Fins, I don't have $500 to spend on an aircraft comparison! ;-) I'm a regional FO! Looks like an excellent program to use before you purchase a jet, however. Are you involved with this?
